Responsibilities

Step into a role where your expertise directly protects people, shapes culture, and influences some of the most complex Mission Critical projects in the industry. As a senior member of our Field Management team, you’ll be the driving force behind a world‑class safety program that supports high‑density MEP environments, live electrical systems, energization activities, and the construction of cutting‑edge data centers.

This is more than a compliance role — it’s a strategic leadership position. You’ll design and implement safety operations that set the standard for our organization, guide major company decisions, and ensure that every project reflects Shawmut’s unwavering commitment to safety, integrity, and excellence.

If you’re a seasoned safety professional who thrives in high‑risk, high‑visibility environments and wants a seat at the table where decisions are made, this is your opportunity to lead with impact.

What You’ll Lead

Champion Safety Strategy & Culture

  • Develop, implement, and continuously elevate safety policies, programs, and operational standards that align with Shawmut’s mission and world‑class safety culture.

  • Serve as a key voice in company‑wide decision‑making, ensuring safety is embedded in every strategic initiative.

  • Build strong relationships with OSHA, owner HSE teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and protect the organization.

Own Safety Operations for Mission Critical Projects

  • Oversee safety performance across data centers and high‑risk MEP environments, including live electrical work, energization, and commissioning.

  • Ensure all operations meet or exceed local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, and industry best practices.

  • Partner with Risk Management on incident claims, workers’ compensation, loss control, and return‑to‑work programs.

Lead, Mentor & Develop a High‑Performing Safety Team

  • Recruit, coach, and develop Project Safety Managers, Site Safety Officers, and department staff.

  • Drive professional growth through performance management, competency assessments, and succession planning.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, empowerment, and continuous improvement.

Proactively Identify & Mitigate Risk

  • Review project schedules, sequencing, and construction activities to identify hazards before work begins.

  • Lead risk assessments for critical lifts, energization sequences, arc flash exposure, LOTO, fall protection, hazardous materials, and other high‑risk operations.

  • Oversee jobsite inspections, hazard assessments, behavioral observations, and safety audits across all active work areas.

Ensure Excellence in Planning & Documentation

  • Review and approve subcontractor AHAs, JHAs, and PTPs for high‑risk activities.

  • Develop and maintain site‑specific safety programs including emergency response, fire protection, evacuation, and demolition plans.

  • Support hazardous material abatement procedures, ensuring teams understand exposure risks and protective measures.

Educate, Communicate & Influence

  • Deliver engaging safety orientations, toolbox talks, stand‑downs, and targeted initiatives based on trends and emerging risks.

  • Coordinate required safety training including OSHA 10/30, competent person certifications, CPR/First Aid, fall protection, scaffolding, confined space, and LOTO.

  • Serve as a visible safety role model across all jobsites and offices.

Lead Incident Response & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, near misses, and property damage using root‑cause methodologies.

  • Prepare detailed reports, corrective action plans, and lessons learned for leadership, subcontractors, owners, and regulatory agencies.

  • Manage emergency response activities including medical coordination, regulatory reporting, and corrective action follow‑through.

Drive Data‑Driven Safety Performance

  • Track, analyze, and report leading and lagging indicators including TRIR, LTIR, near‑miss trends, inspection scores, and training completion.

  • Use data insights to influence leadership decisions and strengthen safety performance across the organization.

Why This Role Matters

You’ll be the guardian of our people, the architect of our safety culture, and a strategic leader shaping the future of Mission Critical construction at Shawmut. Your work will protect lives, reduce risk, elevate performance, and ensure our teams deliver complex, high‑stakes projects safely and successfully.
