Power Distribution Engineer III

Westwood Professional Services, is seeking a Distribution Engineer III, responsible for the engineering and design of projects ranging from small, quick-turnaround assignments to large, complex power line systems spanning 120V to 34.5kV. With 3 to 5 years of relevant experience and a demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, this role takes meaningful ownership of complex design challenges while actively contributing to the development of junior staff and the continuous improvement of the team's engineering practices.

The Engineer III applies NESC, NEC, ASCE, IEEE, and other applicable industry standards with confidence and independence, producing engineering analyses, plans and specifications, material procurement documents, and construction documentation. This role serves as a technical resource for peers, mentors Engineer I and II staff and interns, conducts peer reviews, and participates in stakeholder meetings — while continuing to develop professionally under the guidance of senior engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop complex engineering solutions for power distribution projects ranging from 120V to 34.5kV, applying engineering principles and applicable utility standards.
• Provide accurate and constructive peer reviews of engineering and design drawings prepared by Engineer I and II staff and interns, ensuring quality, accuracy, and standards compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering and design problems, proposing innovative and practical solutions.
• Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable industry safety and design standards and best practices.
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting power distribution design.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and reports; maintain accurate records of project developments, changes, and outcomes.
• Effectively communicate project status, risks, and technical insights to the supervising engineer and project stakeholders.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings, providing technical insights and project updates.
• Safely and accurately conduct field walkdowns to gather site data and support accurate design development.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Engineer I and II staff and Intern/Co-op participants, fostering their technical and professional growth.
• Drive initiatives for process improvements and innovation within the engineering team.
• Participate in professional organizations and conferences to enhance knowledge and expand professional networks.
• Continue seeking mentorship and guidance from senior engineers in support of ongoing professional development and licensure progression.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil/Structural, Mechanical, or Multi-Disciplinary Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience as a Power Distribution Line Engineer in a consulting or utility environment.
• Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, and IEEE standards as applied to power distribution line design.
• Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision and independently execute on multiple concurrent project commitments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, team members, and stakeholders.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to analyze complex engineering challenges and develop practical, innovative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• The following qualification is preferred but not required for consideration:
• Active Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in the United States is strongly preferred.
