Department Overview:

Situated within NYCEDC’s Planning Division, the Land Use Department is a team of urban planners focused on making NYCEDC’s planning priorities a reality. Land Use supports NYCEDC project teams with technical expertise to navigate complex regulatory processes, secure project approvals, and mitigate risk. Recent projects supported by Land Use include the Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC) Kips Bay, Willets Point, the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, the New York City Ferry system, and various initiatives and projects related to offshore wind, the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, and Brooklyn Army Terminal.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate for the Land Use department is a strategic and collaborative planner with a strong grasp of New York City’s land use regulations, zoning, and environmental review processes. You likely have experience guiding complex projects through discretionary approvals, environmental compliance, and permitting, often in coordination with public agencies and private stakeholders. 

You are skilled at translating technical and regulatory concepts into clear guidance, and you thrive on cross-functional collaboration. You are highly organized, able to manage multiple workstreams, and excel at keeping projects on track through thoughtful planning, coordination, and problem-solving.
