1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 The purpose of this standard procedure is to outline the duties, responsibilities,
authority, reporting relationships, and measures of performance for the position of
van driver.
1.2 Easter Seals is a subcontractor of (Audubon-Area Community Services / Green
River Transit Authority) and will fall under their policy for drivers which includes
a drug and alcohol policy. A copy of this policy will be supplied.
2.0 BASIC FUNCTION
2.1 The basic function of a van driver is to safely transport all individuals to and from
the organization.
4.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
4.1 The van drivers will report directly to the Manager of Transportation Services.
4.2 The following positions report directly to the Van Driver
4.2.1 None
5.0 AUTHORITY
5.1 To report to Manager of Transportation Services and/or the Vice President of
Adult Services any significant change or problems concerning individuals.
5.2 To request from the Manager of Transportation Services the purchase of
equipment, materials, operating supplies, and maintenance of vehicles within the
guidelines established by the approved budget.
5.3 Commit company resources as directed by the Manager of Transportation
Services.
6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 To maintain an effective and efficient operation in compliance with all applicable
laws and regulations in regard to their assigned contracts.
6.2 Ensure a safe work environment.
6.3 Complete daily transportation route sheets and turn them in after each AM run.
6.4 Maintain attendance log for those riding van.
6.5 Maintain transportation log which is to be turned into the Manager of
Transportation Services on a monthly basis.
6.6 To be responsible for keeping vehicle gassed, oil checked air in tires and general
cleanliness of van inside and out.
6.7 To ensure the van has a first-aid kit, spill kit, fire extinguisher, operation card,
insurance card and accident/incident forms.
6.8 To notify Manager of Transportation Services regarding any malfunction of the
vehicle by filling out a Vehicle Maintenance Request form.
6.9 To allow only authorized people to ride the van.
6.10 To have the individuals to the center by their scheduled time.
6.11 Responsible for the punching of the bus pass each trip and to report the case
manager any individuals who do not have the appropriate ticket.
6.10 Support and enforce all company policies and procedures.
6.11 Maintain open communication with the Vice President, Manager of
Transportation Services, Case Managers and all other employees.
6.12 To set an example in behavior, actions and grooming for the Easter Seals program
and its participants.
6.13 Control operational costs and expenses.
6.14 Preserve and maintain the physical assets of the company by following the
established security controls.
6.15 To make sure a substitute has been assigned whenever the primary driver is going
to be absent.
7.0 PRINCIPAL DUTIES
7.1 Maintain the controls necessary to meet Corporate and transportation goals.
7.2 Ensure timely and safe completion of assigned duties.
7.3 Work with management to ensure company policy is followed.
7.4 Control expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements.
7.5 To ensure their vehicle is appropriately maintained and fit to perform its duties.
3.0 REQUIREMENTS:
3.1 Education:
Required: None
Preferred: High School Graduate.
3.2 Experience:
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. One-year experience driving.
3.3 Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to safely operate a fifteen-passenger van and wheel chair lift.
3.4 Physical:
Ability to physically perform operations, listen and actively participate in
communicating effectively with supervisors, employees, customers and public.
3.5 Mental:
Should have basic math skills, as well as good reading, writing and spelling
ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language.
3.6 Working Conditions:
95% of this task involves driving a van and 5% would be sitting performing
paperwork.
