POSITION: HOME VISITOR

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Serves as a ‘parent educator’ for enrolled families by providing weekly, 90-minute in–home visits to pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3. Facilitate socialization groups two times per month for enrolled families. Responsible for documenting Home Visits, child observations and family outcomes in computer system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or
Home Visitor Child Development Associate (CDA) or
Obtain Home Visitor CDA within the times set by the Council for Professional Recognition.
Experience working with Infant/Toddlers preferred.
Head Start or Early Head Start experience preferred.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
- Current certification in Pediatric and Adult First Aid and CPR within 180 days of employment.
- Must have dependable, insured transportation, a valid Wyoming Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Must pass an initial and periodic health screening and TB clearance.
- Complete current trainings in the following areas: Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Allergies, Emergency Preparedness, Reporting and Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect, Early Learning Standards, Safe Sleep Practices and Shaken Baby Syndrome.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Absaroka, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
- Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, PFCE Framework, HELP Connect, Parents as Teachers Curriculum, Partners for a Healthy Baby Curriculum

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct weekly 90-minute Home Visits to children and their families.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Education Assistant while being open to coaching and mentoring.
- Implement curriculum in the context of the home, and in group socialization experiences.
- Facilitate group socialization experiences and other family group activities.
- Provide education, referrals and support services to families.
- Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of young children’s development.
- Promote parent involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall Head Start Program.
- Educate parents with respect to children’s health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health and mental health.
- Act as liaison and advocate between community resources and Early Head Start families.
- Complete documentation of Home Visits, socialization experiences, and other relevant activities.
- Complete a Family Needs Assessment with each family. Work collaboratively with Head Start staff to do this when applicable.
- Set Family Goals according to Family Needs Assessment and follow up monthly on progress made toward meeting set goal.
- Participate in Family Events and assist with scheduling, planning, and setting up/cleaning up. This will involve working collaboratively with Head Start staff.
- Ensure all children with suspected or identified health or developmental concerns receive timely referrals and follow-up treatment as necessary.
- Complete Health and Safety Assessments prior to socialization experiences and ensure Emergency Backpack is stocked and Emergency Contact Information is current.
- Participate fully in supervision and training experiences.
- Positively promote Head Start in the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
