Duties:
Provides instruction in areas pertaining to Cosmetology to inmates/students in a medium security correctional setting.
Follow established curriculum units and lesson plans to address individual student needs.
Maintain accurate up-to-date records of student progress and attendance.
Participate in student recruitment and follow-up.
Provides instruction on an individualized basis to ensure that individual needs are assessed and met.
Attends Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings.
Provides classroom and hands-on-instruction in the various methods and techniques of the cosmetology trade including all aspects of hairstyling, skin care and nail beautification.
Supervises preventative maintenance/parts inventory and tool control.
Assists in annual inventory of all school equipment.
Prepares and prioritizes book and supply orders for presentation and justification basis.
Participate in staff meetings with principal and other teachers on a weekly basis.
Classroom instruction-60%-4.5 hours per day.
Classroom preparation, record keeping and tool inventory-25%-1.75 hours per day.
Tool and Classroom Maintenance-10%-.75 hours per day.
Prepares and compiles student evaluations, interview sheets, competency checklist, etc. participates in at least forty (40) hours of in-service training per year.
Performs related duties as assigned by Head Teacher Work with I.M.S. (Inmate management System) whenever necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Occupational Education or Industrial Arts Certificate in the specialty area; or six (6) years of recent trade experience and a willingness to obtain Occupational Education Certificate. Ability to work with incarcerated individuals, staff and administration. Teaching experience preferred. Proficiency in the various areas of cosmetology, techniques, procedures and operations. Experience in the cosmetology field. Ability to develop and implement a curriculum and lesson plans for the cosmetology program. License from the Massachusetts Cosmetology Board certified or certified by the Division of Occupational Education.
Special Requirements:
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the equivalent from another state may be required.

The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with incarcerated individuals or residents.
