We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Electromyograph (EMG) Technologist to support outpatient electrodiagnostic testing services. This role is primarily responsible for performing nerve conduction studies (NCS) under the direction of the supervising provider. The provider performs the needle EMG/ENG portion of testing and directs overall patient evaluation and treatment planning.

The EMG Technologist plays a key role in preparing patients for testing, obtaining and documenting symptom information, performing nerve conduction testing, coordinating with the provider throughout the diagnostic process, answering patient questions related to the procedure, and assisting with follow-up coordination.

Responsibilities






  • Review basic medical history, symptoms, and reason for testing with the patient.
  • Explain the purpose and general process of the nerve conduction study.
  • Document relevant symptom information (for example: upper extremity numbness, tingling, weakness, pain, or other neurologic complaints).
  • Discuss patient symptoms and testing plan with the supervising provider.
  • Communicate findings and observations during the testing process.
  • Work collaboratively with the provider to ensure accurate and efficient patient care.
  • Conduct ordered nerve conduction testing according to established protocols and provider direction.
  • Prepare the patient and testing environment for the provider-performed EMG/ENG portion of the examination.
  • Assist the provider as needed during the procedure.
  • Understand the overall electrodiagnostic workflow and documentation requirements.
  • Assist patients after testing and provide procedural guidance as appropriate.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, or additional testing as directed.
  • Respond to patient questions and relay clinical concerns to the provider








Qualifications






  • High School Diploma Required
  • One of the following certifications required:
    • Radiology Technologist Program Completed/Active Iowa Permit + ARRT Certification Active
    • OR - CMA/LPN/RN + Nerve Diagnostic/Conduction Certification
  • CNCT (Certified Nerve Conduction experience or certification) is preferred and vital to this position!
  • Experience performing nerve conduction studies preferred.
  • Experience in a neurology, neurodiagnostic, or outpatient procedural setting preferred.
  • Experience obtaining patient histories, documenting findings, and working directly with providers preferred.
