Hope Leadership Academy (HLA) is a tuition-free, public charter school serving grades Pre-K through 5 in Kansas City, MO. Our mission is to provide aworld-class neighborhood schoolwhere students are known, supported, and challenged through a rigorous academic program, strong character development, and a family-centered community.
Position Overview:
HLA teachers are passionate, mission-driven educators committed to ensuring every student achieves academic success and grows as a leader. Teachers are responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction, creating a positive classroom culture, and using data to drive student growth. The ideal candidate is reflective, collaborative, and equity-focused.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Planning
Deliver engaging, grade-level instruction aligned to Missouri Learning Standards
Use the adopted curriculum (e.g., McGraw Hill, Eureka Math) and supplement with high-quality resources
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that accommodate the needs of all learners
Incorporate differentiation, small-group instruction, and intervention strategies
Integrate technology and hands-on learning into daily instruction
Classroom Management & Culture
Create a safe, structured, and joyful classroom environment
Implement school-wide behavior expectations and restorative practices
Promote HLA’s core values and character development initiatives
Build strong relationships with students and maintain high expectations for all
Data-Driven Instruction
Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments
Use data to identify trends, monitor progress, and adjust instruction
Participate in data meetings and collaborate with interventionists to support student growth
Family & School Engagement
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior, and goals
Participate in family events, conferences, and school celebrations
Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to foster a strong school community
Professional Responsibilities
Attend all staff meetings, professional development sessions, and planning meetings
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance
Uphold all school policies and model professionalism at all times
Contribute to a positive and mission-driven school culture
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required)
Valid Missouri teaching certification or ability to obtain (required)
Experience teaching in an urban or charter school setting (preferred)
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
Commitment to equity, excellence, and continuous improvement
