Riley Fire Department is seeking an organized and resourceful Emergency Management Coordinator to support emergency preparedness, response planning, community safety, and operational readiness.
This position works across department functions to develop emergency plans, coordinate preparedness initiatives, maintain critical documentation, and strengthen the department’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies. The ideal candidate combines strong planning and communication skills with a practical understanding of public safety and emergency management.
What You’ll Do
Develop, review, and maintain emergency response and preparedness plans.
Coordinate emergency planning activities with department personnel and community partners.
Assist with hazard identification, risk assessments, and operational preparedness.
Plan and coordinate emergency exercises, drills, and preparedness activities.
Maintain emergency management records, plans, reports, and supporting documentation.
Track preparedness requirements and help ensure departmental procedures remain current.
Assist with continuity-of-operations and disaster recovery planning.
Coordinate resources and logistical requirements for emergency preparedness initiatives.
Support public education and community preparedness programs.
Prepare reports, presentations, and operational summaries for department leadership.
Research emergency management practices, regulations, and available resources.
Assist with grant-related documentation and emergency preparedness programs when needed.
Participate in after-action reviews and help identify opportunities to improve response procedures.
Maintain effective working relationships with public safety agencies, government partners, and community organizations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Safety, Fire Science, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
2+ years of experience in emergency management, public safety, disaster preparedness, government operations, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of emergency preparedness and incident-response principles.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate plans, reports, and administrative records.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively with personnel from different agencies and operational functions.
Work Environment
This position combines administrative planning with interaction across emergency-service operations. Work is primarily performed in an office and public-safety environment, with occasional participation in training exercises, community programs, meetings, and emergency preparedness activities.
