  • Preferred At Hire: Ne Year Experience In Hospital Setting, Preferably Critical Care


Certification/Licensure (including annual requirements)

  • Minimum Requirement: Current NC CNA listing; current CPR, AEGIS De Escalation Training within 3 months of Hire


Equipment (Experience And/Or Training)

  • Minimum Requirement: As Applicable

Computer Skills (Hardware & Software)

  • Minimum Requirement: Basic Computer And Internet Explorer Skills.

  • Minimum Requirement: Demonstrates Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal. Diplomacy, Tact, And A Positive Approach To Problem Solving Are Required To Be Successful. Organizational Skills Are A Must. Fosters A Teamwork Environment. Must Be Able To Communicate With Patients, Customers, Other Departments, And Staff In An Articulate Manner.

Job Description:

A.Performs assigned tasks and maintains awareness of pertinent rationale and special precautions. Demonstrates competency in performing task.
1.Obtains vital signs on all patients according to policy and communicates abnormalities to the nurse in a timely manner: Blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature (oral, auxiliary, or rectal), weights.
2.Assists patients into the emergency center, then to a stretcher in the examination room.
3.Documents information on designated portions of the Emergency Center record.
4.Relates all patient/family questions to the nurse in a timely manner.
5.Acts as the liaison person between the treatment area and the waiting room.
6.Acknowledges patient psycho-social needs and reports information to the nurse.
7.Prepares the patient for examination .
8.Uses proper draping and wrapping technique to maintain asepsis.


B.Skillfully performs the following duties when properly instructed:
1.Application of hot/cold compresses.
2.Measures and fits crutches properly.
3.Collects/labels laboratory specimens.
4.Cleans wounds and abrasions.
5.Prepares sterile trays.
6.Applies simple bandages.
7.Applies ace bandages.
8.Performs surgical skin preps.
9.Performs febrile sponge baths.
10.Applies restraints, as ordered.
11.Applies electrodes for heart monitoring.
12.Assists physicians with specialized examinations.
13.Implements O2 therapy, as ordered.
14.Performs EKGs.
15.Assist licensed nurse with admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures as directed.


C.Maintains an environment which promotes safety for both the hospital associate and the patient.
Demonstrates knowledge of the patients who are at high risk for falls or injury.
•Able to identify patients at high risk for falls
•Locks wheels on all stretchers and wheelchairs
•Puts up side rails on all patients laying on stretchers
•Places call bells within reach of the patient
•Maintains a workplace that is clean and free of clutter
•Assists patients with positioning, turning, and ambulation
•Ensures that patients are properly secured before transport
•Provides for constant patient observation when instructed


D.Demonstrates knowledge of the policy and procedure for protective and restrictive devices.
1.Assist in applying devices properly to ensure patient safety.


E.Complies with standard precautions in the implementation of patient care.

F.Assist in checking and restocking patient rooms with necessary supplies. Including: gloves; suction apparatus/canisters; Ambu bags; needle disposal boxes

G.Maintains patient care areas clean and free of clutter.
1.Cleans the stretchers between patients.
2.Handles clean and soiled linen appropriately.
3.If trauma patient, assures that under mattress is cleaned.


H.Assist with the elimination needs of the patient considering the patient`s privacy, psychosocial, and physiological needs.
1.Assist the patient with eliminations (I.e. bedpan, urinal, assisting to bathroom)
2.Demonstrate proper technique when administering enemas.
3.Collects and labels specimens appropriately.


I.Communicates effectively with health care team.
1.Greets and escorts patients to the appropriate area for treatment if the triage nurse is busy and there is an open treatment area.
2.Answers two-way radio and dispatches messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
3.Monitor enunciator panel and announces public address system pages as indicated.
4.Assists licensed personnel by making phone calls, running errands, or photocopying, etc. as directed by the RN or MD.


J.Initiates and/or assists with emergency life support measures as directed by the licensed nurse.
1.Maintains currency in basic life support skills.
2.Initiates and/or assists with CPR during a code blue situation.
3.Obtains supplies for the emergency as directed by the nurse or health care provider.
4.Demonstrates standard precautions during the emergency situation.


K.Performs other related duties as delegated by the licensed nurse, the manager, or the director of the Emergency Center.
1.Demonstrates a familiarity with Emergency Center and hospital policies and procedures.
2.Assumes responsibility for patient's personal belongings and valuables and documents disposition of items on the EC record.
3.Places all used instruments in the appropriate container in the dirty utility room.
4.Demonstrates knowledge of the location of all emergency equipment and supplies.
5.Stays accessible at all times when on duty. Cooperates and offers assistance to all personnel.


L.Adhere to organization/departmental health and safety standards.
1.Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to hospital and departmental safety regulations, disaster plans, infection control policies, fire safety regulations, hazardous materials disposal.
2.Demonstrates knowledge of emergency codes and their meanings.
3.Utilizes standard precautions in compliance with infection control guidelines.


M.Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant - 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics - 1 - 12 years; Adolescence - 13 - 17 years; Young Adult/Adult - 18 - 64 years; Adult/Middle-Aged - 65 - 79 years; Geriatric - 80+ years
