JOB SUMMARY: The Employment Specialist performs job readiness, counseling, employer relations activities, client intake, assessment of employment eligibility, job coaching, resume writing, follow up with clients, and upkeep of program files.  The position networks with public and private employers to develop employment opportunities for clients. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform job readiness, counseling, and employer relations activities for the employment program.
  1. Provide Job Readiness Workshops and job counseling to clients of Employment Program and other training programs.  This includes preparing resumes, online job applications, resolving problems with employers, providing  Job Readiness instruction and  assessment to program clients.  
  2. Conduct weekly employment orientations to clients which include instruction on workers’ rights, filling out job applications, preparing for an interview, writing professional resumes and cover letters among other topics. 
  3. Recruit and maintain a list of potential employers for clients seeking employment. Contact parishes and local employers to assist clients in applying for jobs including employers related to the Latinos in Finance Program. 
  4. Maintain cooperative relationships with employers, follow up on client job placements, and assist in resolving job-related problems. 
  5. Maintain contact with the Department of Employment Services (DOES), DC Office on Latino Affairs and Montgomery County Workforce, and refer out clients when appropriate. 
  6. Contact employers that use program services monthly and solicit donation for the program. 
  • Conduct client intake, assessment, client follow up and upkeep of program files and  ensuring adherence to project quality standards.
  1. Perform client intake, assessment and follow up. 
  2. Monitor and maintain statistical program data in Case Worthy including modifications to present reports and systems as needed. 
  3. Issue membership cards.  Prepare IDs for clients seeking identification for employment, school registration, and other purposes. 
  4. Report accurate statistics including program outputs and outcomes.  
  5. Locate and compile program data to include formatting reports, graphs, tables, records and other sources of information.
  • Prepare required reports, program surveys and promotional materials. 
  1. Help prepare grant monitoring reports. 
  2. Administer satisfaction surveys to clients. 
  3. Prepare monthly program report for program director. 
  4. Prepare promotional materials for programs. 
  • Collaborate with workforce development staff.  
  1. Collaborate with case managers, workforce development managers and other team members to ensure clients have needed resources and support to prepare, gain and retain employment. 
  2. Seek grant opportunities to expand assigned program. 
  3. Help Implement the food program. 
  • Attend Agency meetings, community seminars, outreach events and government as well as private foundations events. Participate in government hearings advocating for the Agency and assigned programs. 
  • Participate in quality improvement and actively comply with quality improvement initiatives.  Perform appropriate tasks and quality improvement projects for accreditation (COA). 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree.
  • 2  years of experience working with immigrant and Latino population in a social service setting.
  • 1 year of experience in job development.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

  • Driving is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. 
  • Bilingual speaker (English-Spanish).
