What You'll Do

A Reliability Engineer (RE) plays a pivotal role in strengthening the reliability and maintainability of our equipment and systems, contributing to significant improvements in our operational efficiency and asset longevity. This position offers dynamic opportunities for individuals to apply and grow their expertise in optimizing asset management processes, minimizing downtime, reducing failure rates, and maximizing equipment reliability.



  • Provides strategic support and technical expertise to enhance equipment design, reliability, and maintainability across Production, Engineering, Projects, and Maintenance Organizations.

  • Gathers, reviews, and analyzes data concerning facility or equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) specifications.

  • Review technical documents that depict or define reliability, accessibility, maintainability, or inspectability features of systems, equipment, and facilities, including technical basis documentation, manuals, and data-sheets.

  • Driving the integration of project and plant RAMI deliverables.

  • Develop and implement proactive maintenance strategies for facility structures, systems, and components.

  • Conduct equipment fault identification and comprehensive trend analysis of structures, systems, and components.

  • Defining, developing, implementing, revising, and monitoring Asset Management Plan(s) for structures, systems, and components.

  • Effective deployment condition-based, predictive, and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems before failure occurrence.

  • Completing and presenting RAMI and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analyses to internal and external engineering partners. These analyses encompass labor distributions, critical spares identification, proactive asset management plans, failure rates of Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and life-cycle cost analysis.

Minimum Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline

  • OR Master's degree in engineering/science discipline

  • OR PhD degree in engineering/science discipline

Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements

The applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities (Ref. DOE O 426.2)

Preferred Job Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering or a related field from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents thru ABET Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA)

  • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire



      • 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree

      • 3.3/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree

      • 3.5/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD





  • Level 1 Thermography, Vibration certification or experience collecting Condition Based Maintenance data  

  • Ability to work independently as well as work within a team environment and promote collaboration

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Interact with organizations across the Enterprise

  • Present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written communication

  • Ability to resolve complex issues, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired.

 

If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.

 

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

 

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 709. Medical requirements may apply.
