Title: Distribution Engineer
Client: Alabama Power
Location: Tuscaloosa / Northport, AL
Contract: 1 Year
Experience: Entry Level to 5–10 Years, depending on candidate experience


Job Summary


We are seeking a Distribution Engineer to support the design, planning, optimization, and maintenance of electric distribution systems.


This position may be filled at an entry-level or experienced Engineer II level depending on the candidate’s background. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of electrical distribution design, technical analysis, project management, system reliability, and safety standards.


Candidates must currently live in the Tuscaloosa/Northport area or be willing to relocate. 


Key Responsibilities




  • Design and plan electrical distribution systems and power lines.




  • Support distribution system upgrades, replacements, and maintenance projects.




  • Perform technical analysis, including:




    • Load flow analysis




    • Fault analysis




    • Voltage drop calculations






  • Optimize distribution networks for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.




  • Manage distribution projects from planning and design through implementation.




  • Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, records, and project documentation.




  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of distribution system designs.




  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulations, and environmental requirements.




  • Coordinate with engineers, field technicians, project managers, and other stakeholders.




  • Provide technical support for field activities and customer-related distribution issues.




  • Promote safe work practices and support reliable system operations.




Required Qualifications




  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.




  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.




  • Good written and verbal communication skills.




  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety.




  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and field teams.




  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project needs.




  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Tuscaloosa/Northport, AL area.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Experience with electric utility or distribution system design.




  • Knowledge of distribution system design software and engineering tools.




  • Familiarity with utility industry codes, standards, and regulations.




  • Experience with project planning, budgeting, and execution.




  • Experience performing load flow, fault, or voltage-drop studies.




  • Previous power delivery, utility, or field engineering experience.




Experience Level


This position may be considered for:




  • Entry-Level Engineer: Recent engineering graduate or candidate with limited related experience.




  • Experienced Distribution Engineer / Engineer II: Approximately 5–10 years of relevant distribution engineering experience.
