Job Description - Engineer, Boat Port






Overview






Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and repairs of Kirby Inland Marine vessel fleet.









Responsibilities






  • Set up vessels for repairs or major dry-docking and oversee repairs.
  • Monitor shipyard costs and negotiate prices deemed necessary. 
  • Input all costs on major jobs. 
  • Track job costs against budget and approval limits.
  • Review priority reports and oversee repairs that are needed.
  • Conduct quarterly maintenance audit of Kirby vessels and price out any needed repairs found for the next year’s budget.
  • Set up vendors or in-house mechanics to perform maintenance and/or repairs and track completion of repairs. Assist charter boats when requested.
  • Complete work orders on needed repairs and assigned vendors.
  • Assist on special projects as assigned.








Qualifications






  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and exercise good judgement.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; climb aboard and move around vessels; climb 90-degree vertical ladders.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, personal computer, and company vehicles.

Education/ Experience:       

High school diploma or GED.

2-3 years field experience in the marine transportation industry.

 

Working Conditions:

On-call 7 days a week / 24 hours per day every four weeks to take care of any maintenance issues that may arise after hours or on weekends.
