Job Description - Engineering Specialist - Energy Transition and DC Systems

Eaton\u2019s CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Engineering Specialist - Energy Transition and DC Systems. \n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $122000 - $179000 a year. \n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nEaton Research Labs (ERL) is currently looking for a Engineering Specialist to join our energy transition and DC systems team in Golden CO. If candidate is not located within a 50 mile radius of Golden, CO relocation will be considered. We are looking for an experienced candidate in one of the following areas: Specialty 1: AI/ML based energy systems design, controls, and optimizations; or, Specialty 2: DC technologies related to data center and EV charging applications. \nEaton is a power management company made up of over 92,000 employees, doing business in more than 175 countries. The ERL is a corporate R\u0026D function within Eaton\u0027s Chief Technology Office, responsible for innovative and breakthrough technology development and commercialization for Eaton products and service solutions. It\u2019s where bold, bright professionals like you can reach your full potential\u2014and where you can help us reach ours. \nJob Responsibilities: \n\u2022 Serve as a domain expert and leader in research, technology development and demonstration. \n\u2022 Perform as project lead with responsibilities to ensure technical flow, track on project milestones, coordinate and mentor project team members. \n\u2022 Lead and contribute to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs. \n\u2022 Lead and contribute to government proposal preparation and project execution. \n\u2022 Play a pivotal role in fostering business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events, acquiring resources, and funding. \n\u2022 Execute essential functions in cultivating external partnerships and aligning with outside technological advancements. \n\u2022 Develop as an industry recognized subject matter expert through active participation in conferences, seminars, standard bodies, and relevant industrial/academic consortium meetings to drive Eaton\u2019s innovation leadership. \n\u2022 Lead and contribute to IP generation through authoring/co-authoring disclosures and patents.\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired (Basic) Qualifications: \n\u2022 PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus \n\u2022 Minimum 4 years of industrial/entrepreneurial/academic experience after Ph.D. in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in AI/ML for energy systems or in DC system design and control technologies. \nOr \n\u2022 Master\u2019s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus \n\u2022 Minimum 9 years of industrial/entrepreneurial experience after Master\u2019s in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in AI/ML for energy systems or in DC system design and control technologies. \n\u2022 Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future. \nPreferred qualifications: \n\u2022 Background in energy systems, including power systems, renewable energy, and control systems. \n\u2022 Expertise in using control theory and digital control techniques for power converters and grid connected systems. \n\u2022 Experience using hardware in the loop (HIL) platforms, or real time simulators, for controller testing and validation will be a plus. \n\u2022 Adaptable, eager to learn emerging technologies, and capable of bridging theory with practical implementation.\n\n## Skills:\n\nPosition Criteria: \n\u2022 Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality technological innovations in the relevant areas. \n\u2022 Verifiable strong experience in one of the following technical areas: \n\u2022 Specialty 1 (AI/ML for energy systems) \u2013 Demonstrated strong experience in two or more of the following topics: AI/ML algorithms for energy systems controls and optimization; scalable data structures and design framework for AI/ML; LLMs and agentic AI; surrogate modeling; MLOps; high performance and distributed computing systems; digital twins for controls. \nOr, \n\u2022 Specialty 2 (DC technologies) \u2013 Demonstrated strong experience in two or more of the following topics: Model based design for DC systems; control of DC systems; hybrid AC/DC or DC system protection; data center system modeling and control; DC data center system architectures; DC microgrid/distribution systems design. \n\u2022 Collaborative orientation. The ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented environment. \n\u2022 Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual. \n\u2022 Excellent written and verbal communication skills in dealing with management, employees, customers, and suppliers.\n\nAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
