Equipment Manager - Heavy Equipment & Fleet

POSITION SUMMARY

An established construction contractor is hiring an Equipment Manager to support a large fleet of yellow iron, crew vehicles, and related assets. The position serves as the central point of coordination for maintenance, repairs, rentals, purchasing, equipment records, and fleet utilization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee day-to-day management of heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and related construction assets.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment availability with mechanics, field leaders, and vendors.
• Administer fuel, maintenance, telematics, and equipment-tracking programs.
• Review fleet and equipment needs across projects and coordinate transfers, relocations, rentals, purchases, or disposals.
• Research and evaluate rental, lease, purchase, service, and maintenance agreements.
• Assist with negotiating equipment and fleet agreements to improve cost, service, and availability.
• Serve as a primary liaison for repair approvals and communicate fleet procedures to field and office personnel.
• Track equipment utilization, maintenance history, costs, and upcoming needs using HCSS or a comparable system.
• Maintain fleet and equipment records, including licensing, titling, documentation, and compliance requirements.
• Provide input into annual equipment and fleet budgeting.
• Support planning for replacement cycles, surplus equipment, and capital purchases.
• Coordinate with operations to reduce downtime and keep projects properly equipped.
• Promote a safety-first culture and ensure equipment-related practices support company safety standards.
• Visit project sites periodically to review equipment needs, utilization, condition, and operational issues.

   

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 3 years of fleet and/or heavy-equipment management experience preferred.
• At least 5 years of construction-industry experience preferred.
• Hands-on understanding of heavy construction equipment, yellow iron, crew trucks, maintenance, and repair processes.
• Experience managing rental, lease, purchase, maintenance, or vendor agreements.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assets, priorities, and locations.
• Working knowledge of fleet telematics, maintenance-management systems, or HCSS is highly desirable.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
• Leadership and communication skills sufficient to work effectively with mechanics, operators, field leaders, vendors, and management.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Spanish language ability is a plus, but not required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary: $90,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, health savings account, and company vehicle eligibility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primary work location is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This is an in-person position supporting construction operations. Occasional project-site visits are expected, including exposure to active heavy equipment, dust, noise, heat, cold, and uneven terrain. Required PPE must be worn when visiting active jobsites.
