In this position, you will report to the Central Platte Campus (1271 W. Bayaud Ave., Bldg. #2, Denver, CO 80223) at the beginning and end of each shift. During the day, you will work in the field throughout the City and County of Denver as needed.

Street Maintenance, a division within the City and County of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, is responsible for keeping Denver’s streets and alleys safe, clean, and reliable year-round. The division oversees a wide range of essential services, including pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, and citywide street sweeping. It also operates Denver’s asphalt plant, which produces the materials necessary to resurface and maintain the city’s transportation infrastructure. In addition, Street Maintenance leads Denver’s citywide snow response program, ensuring timely and efficient snow removal to keep roadways accessible during winter weather.
To support these critical operations, the Street Maintenance team is currently hiring for an Equipment Operator II (Construction Sweeper) position. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the maintenance and improvement of Denver’s streets, alleys, and transportation network while serving the community through all seasons.
Specifically, as an Equipment Operator II (Construction Sweeper) you will:
Operates construction street sweeper as needed on road surface to sweep up construction debris
Observation, maintenance, and filling of sweeper water system tanks and hopper (tank for sweeper tailings/debris)
Operates medium sized, specialized equipment in the performance of a variety of construction, maintenance, and other work including the use of attachments designed to perform specialized tasks in combination with the vehicle's operation or mode of function and ensures the safe and efficient operation of equipment and a variety of work-related tools
Inspects vehicle for loose parts, damaged or worn tires, proper air pressure in tires, and other items affecting its safe operation and completes a pre/post trip inspection as defined by federal guidelines.
Observes on-board instruments while operating equipment and takes routine corrective action if malfunctions are indicated
Performs manual labor in construction, maintenance, or other work-related duties when not driving equipment to or operating it at the work site
Assists in preventative maintenance of equipment by washing and servicing vehicles with water, oil, and fuel, performs basic maintenance, and makes minor running repairs
Keeps trip records and logs, reports defects in the vehicle’s operations, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle
Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provides information within the area of assignment.
Participates in snow removal duties
Provides training to less experienced employees.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Previous experience operating a construction sweeper in a variety of weather conditions
Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of general labor experience which must include two (2) years of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.
License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
At the time of application, candidates are required to hold a valid CDL clear of any restrictions or under prohibited status in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse. This position requires a background check, physical, and drug test.
Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English:
Converse with the general public
Understand highway traffic signs and signals
Respond to official inquiries
Make entries on reports and records
