Position Summary

The Estimator Team Lead runs day-to-day estimating for DominionX's new-construction roofing and siding work, turning builder plans into accurate, on-time bids. You will carry your own estimating workload while leading a small team, checking their takeoffs and pricing, and keeping bid turnaround tight.

You are the go-to person for builder plan questions, option pricing and plan-library accuracy. You work closely with the Estimating Manager, sales, purchasing and production so what we bid is what we build, at the margin we planned.

Key Responsibilities

Team leadership

• Review estimators' takeoffs, material lists and pricing for accuracy before submission.


• Train and mentor estimators on takeoff methods, software, company standards and builder specs.


• Provide input to the Estimating Manager on performance, workload and hiring.


• Step in on overflow and complex bids when the team is at capacity.

Estimating

• Prepare roofing and siding estimates from architectural plans, elevations and builder spec sheets.


• Perform takeoffs for roofing (shingles, metal, low slope), siding, exterior trim & gutters.


• Build accurate pricing for base plans, elevations and builder options; apply correct waste factors and labor rates.


• Maintain the plan library so repeat plans and community packages are bid quickly and consistently.

Builder and internal coordination

• Serve as the main estimating contact for builder purchasing and construction teams on plan questions and revisions.


• Support sales with community bids, value-engineering options and contract pricing.


• Review variance between estimated and actual material and labor; feed findings back into pricing.

Process and systems

• Enforce estimating standards, templates and checklists across the team.


• Recommend process and software improvements that cut turnaround time or errors.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of residential roofing and/or siding estimating, with new-construction experience.


• Strong plan-reading skills: roof pitches, elevations, wall areas, openings and trim details.


• Working knowledge of asphalt shingle, vinyl siding and fiber cement installation and materials.


• Proficiency with digital takeoff software (e.g., PlanSwift, Stack or similar) and Excel.


• Track record of producing accurate bids under tight builder deadlines.


• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications

• 1+ years leading, training or reviewing the work of other estimators.


• Experience bidding production builder communities, plan libraries and option pricing.


• Familiarity with the Nashville-area builder market and local code requirements.


• Field experience in installation, project management or quality control.


• Manufacturer product training or certification (e.g., James Hardie, GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed).


• Associate's degree in construction management or a related field.
