TheatreSquared is looking for dependable, hardworking Event Catering Overhire staff to join our seasonal overhire team and help support catered events, performances, rentals, and other special activities at TheatreSquared.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, doesn't mind jumping in wherever help is needed, and is interested in occasional, flexible work supporting catered events.

Event Catering Overhire staff primarily assist with event setup, catering preparation and staging, plating, food service support, cleanup, dishwashing, and event breakdown. This is a support position working alongside TheatreSquared's Chef, event staff, and other team members. It is not a cooking position, and employees will not be expected to prepare or cook meals independently.

Previous catering or food-service experience is preferred, but not required. We're looking primarily for people who are dependable, willing to work, able to follow direction, and comfortable pitching in wherever needed.

WHAT DOES "OVERHIRE" MEAN?

Overhire staff work as needed based on TheatreSquared's event, rental, and performance schedule rather than receiving a regular weekly schedule.

Available shifts may be offered for pickup or assigned based on availability and staffing needs. Some weeks may provide several opportunities to work, while other weeks may have few or no shifts available. Special events and rentals may create additional opportunities throughout the year.

Shifts may take place during the day, evening, late night, weekends, and occasionally holidays, depending on the event schedule.

There is no minimum number of shifts required. However, reliability is extremely important. Once you pick up or are scheduled for a shift, we count on you to be there, on time, and ready to work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The primary responsibility of Event Catering Overhire is to support the successful setup, service, and cleanup of catered events. Duties may vary from event to event and may include:

• Assist the Chef and catering team with basic food preparation, such as portioning, arranging, assembling, or preparing items for service.


• Assist with event and catering setup, including staging food, supplies, serving pieces, tables, and other event materials.


• Help prepare and organize catering and service areas before guests arrive.


• Assist with plating and arranging food for service.


• Monitor food and catering areas during events and replenish food, serving items, and supplies as directed.


• Pass appetizers, food, water, and other non-alcoholic beverages when needed.


• Assist with buffet, food station, and catering service as assigned.


• Clear used plates, glassware, utensils, napkins, and other items from event and catering areas.


• Keep catering, kitchen, staging, and service areas clean, organized, and supplied throughout an event.


• Wash dishes, utensils, glassware, serving pieces, cookware, and other catering equipment by hand and/or using the dishwasher.


• Assist with trash removal and general cleaning throughout an event.


• Help with end-of-event breakdown and tear-down, including returning supplies and equipment to their proper locations.


• Wash dishes and complete kitchen and catering cleanup following events.


• Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and organizing catering supplies and event materials as needed.


• Follow TheatreSquared procedures related to food safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and event operations.


• Work cooperatively with the Chef, catering staff, Event Bar Staff, event staff, and other TheatreSquared employees.


• Pitch in and support other areas of the event when additional help is needed. Event Catering Overhire staff are part of the overall event team and may be asked to assist with other reasonable event-related duties based on operational needs.

This position is primarily a behind-the-scenes support role. There may be occasional interaction with guests when passing food or non-alcoholic beverages, clearing items, or assisting in event spaces. Staff are expected to be polite and welcoming, but this is not a traditional server position and does not require taking food or drink orders.

Event Catering Overhire staff will not serve or handle alcoholic beverages.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Dependable and able to show up on time for accepted shifts.


• Willing to work hard and help wherever needed during an event.


• Able to follow instructions and work under the direction of TheatreSquared's Chef, catering management, and event staff.


• Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team.


• Previous catering, restaurant, kitchen, banquet, or other food-service experience is preferred, but not required.


• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where duties and priorities may change throughout an event.


• Willing to perform a variety of tasks, including food preparation assistance, setup, plating, clearing, cleaning, dishwashing, and event breakdown.


• Available for some daytime, evening, late-night, weekend, and occasional holiday shifts.


• Able to stand and move for extended periods and regularly bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull items associated with catering and event setup.


• Able to safely lift and carry approximately 40–50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.


• Reliable transportation to and from TheatreSquared.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULING

This is a part-time, non-exempt, overhire/seasonal position paying $15.00 per hour plus tips when applicable to the event or shift worked.

Event Catering Overhire staff do not have a guaranteed number of weekly hours or a regularly scheduled work week. Work opportunities are based on TheatreSquared's changing schedule of catered events, rentals, performances, and other special activities.

There may be periods with several available shifts and other periods with significantly fewer—or no—shifts available.

This position is a good fit for someone looking for flexible, occasional work and extra income rather than someone seeking a consistent weekly schedule.
