Fabrication Production Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW

TSEC is seeking an experienced Fabrication Production Manager to oversee the technical and operational execution of our structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication shop.

This position requires strong proficiency in steel detailing and shop drawings, material procurement, labor and material budgeting, production scheduling, quality control, and personnel management.

The Production Manager will work directly with project management, steel detailers, vendors, our CWI, and shop personnel to move projects from approved drawings through fabrication and load-out-while maintaining schedule, quality, safety, and cost objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficient in Detailing Review & Technical Coordination

• 
  

  Review structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings and detailing packages prior to fabrication for completeness, constructability, connections, dimensions, material requirements, weld requirements, and revisions.

  Coordinate directly with steel detailers and project management to resolve discrepancies, RFIs, revisions, and fabrication questions before work is released to the shop.

  
  


• 
  

  Translate approved detailing packages into organized fabrication priorities and sequencing.

  
  

Production Planning & Scheduling

• 
  

  Develop and manage daily and weekly shop production schedules based on project deadlines, manpower, material availability, and shop capacity.

  
  


• 
  

  Allocate labor and coordinate workflow through cutting, layout, fit-up, welding, QC, finishing, outside processing, and load-out.

  
  


• 
  

  Monitor production status across multiple projects and proactively address bottlenecks or schedule conflicts.

  
  

Personnel Management, Safety & Performance

• 
  

  Directly manage shop personnel, including work assignments, attendance, timekeeping, productivity, training, and performance accountability.

  
  


• 
  

  Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, employee development, performance evaluations, and corrective action.

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain accountability for shop organization, equipment use, PPE, safety procedures, workmanship, and productivity.

  
  


• 
  

  Coordinate with the CWI to ensure fabrication is performed in accordance with approved WPS requirements and applicable quality standards.

  
  

Material Procurement, Vendors & Inventory

• 
  

  Develop and verify material takeoffs from approved drawings and determine purchasing requirements for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, hardware, fasteners, buyout items, and fabrication consumables.

  
  


• 
  

  Communicate directly with steel suppliers and vendors regarding pricing, availability, lead times, deliveries, and outside processing.

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain appropriate inventory levels for raw materials, welding consumables, hardware, and shop supplies to support scheduled production.

  
  

Labor & Material Budgeting / Job Cost Control

• 
  

  Develop labor-hour and material budgets for fabrication based on project scope, drawings, production requirements, and schedule.

  
  


• 
  

  Track estimated versus actual labor hours, material purchases, consumable usage, and production progress by project.

  
  


• 
  

  Identify cost or productivity variances and make operational adjustments to maintain cost-effective production.

  
  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 
  

  5+ years of progressive structural or miscellaneous steel fabrication experience with demonstrated production-management responsibility.

  
  


• 
  

  Advanced ability to interpret and review structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings and detailing packages.

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrated experience coordinating with steel detailers, vendors, project management, and fabrication personnel.

  
  


• 
  

  Experience performing/verifying material takeoffs and procuring structural steel, hardware, and fabrication consumables.

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrated experience developing and managing labor and material budgets and monitoring job costs.

  
  


• 
  

  Strong knowledge of fabrication sequencing, structural connections, weld symbols, WPS requirements, and fabrication tolerances.

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrated experience managing shop schedules, manpower, inventory, quality, safety, and personnel performance.

  
  


• 
  

  Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 requirements; D1.8 and LA City/LADBS experience preferred.

  
  

This is a production management position requires experience with procurement of materials, managing employees and technical knowledge of steel fabrication and cost control.
