The Facilities Service Worker plays a critical role in creating a safe and therapeutic environment for residents living with serious mental illness. This position requires a reliable, detail-oriented individual who understands the importance of maintaining a dignified, respectful, and welcoming living space for all residents in our care.

  • Ensure all mechanical systems — including HVAC, plumbing, electrical panels, and fire safety equipment — are operational and serviced on schedule

  • Coordinate with licensed contractors and vendors for repairs and services beyond the scope of in-house maintenance

  • Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all facility equipment, appliances, and building systems

  • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests

Janitorial & Sanitation Services

  • Perform daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning tasks in accordance with NPCRS standards and California DHCS licensing requirements

  • Ensure proper disposal of trash, recycling, and regulated medical or sharps waste in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations

  • Monitor and restock janitorial supplies, cleaning products, and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed

  • Maintain cleaning logs and sanitation records as required by DHCS and NPCRS policy

Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance

  • Maintain facility grounds including landscaping, lawn care, pruning, and seasonal upkeep

  • Ensure exterior walkways, parking areas, and entry points are clean, safe, and free of hazards

  • Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, gutter cleaning, and weather-related safety preparations

  • Maintain the overall curb appeal and exterior condition of the facility consistent with NPCRS standards

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure the facility meets all applicable fire safety, health, and building code requirements at all times

  • Conduct and document routine fire extinguisher checks, exit sign inspections, emergency lighting tests, and smoke detector maintenance

  • Support DHCS licensing inspections, audits, and site reviews by maintaining facility readiness and documentation

  • Report any observed safety hazards, resident incidents, or facility concerns to the Program Director immediately

  • Follow all NPCRS infection control, hazardous materials handling, and OSHA safety protocols

  • Maintain compliance with Title 22 physical plant requirements for licensed residential care facilities

Supply & Inventory Management

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, cleaning products, tools, and equipment

  • Submit purchase requests for supplies and equipment through the approved NPCRS procurement process

  • Organize and maintain the facility storage areas, maintenance rooms, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner

  • Track and document all facility-related expenditures and vendor invoices for review by the Program Director

Resident Environment & Therapeutic Milieu

  • Maintain awareness of the therapeutic nature of the MHRC environment and approach all work with sensitivity and respect for residents in psychiatric recovery

  • Perform maintenance tasks in resident areas with minimal disruption to daily programming and residential routines

  • Report any concerns about resident behavior, welfare, or safety observed during the course of facility duties to clinical or administrative staff

  • Contribute to a welcoming, dignified, and recovery-oriented living environment through consistent attention to the physical condition of the facility

Preferred

  • Experience working in a residential care, healthcare, or behavioral health facility
