Facilities Technician

The Facilities Technician supports the Facilities Director with the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and operation of Alpert JFS facilities. This is a hands-on position for someone who is dependable, proactive, responsive, and comfortable handling a wide variety of basic repairs and facility needs.

A key expectation of this position is initiative. The Facilities Technician should actively identify work that needs to be done and take appropriate action without waiting to be assigned every task. The successful candidate notices problems, finds solutions, and follows them through to completion while keeping the Facilities Director informed.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys fixing things, takes pride in keeping a facility looking and functioning properly, and understands that good communication and follow-through are just as important as technical ability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general handyman and facility maintenance work, including minor repairs, painting, patching, touch-ups, and basic carpentry. 
• Proactively inspect facilities and address routine maintenance, repair, safety, and appearance issues without waiting for specific direction or a work request. 
• Identify things that need attention and take appropriate action rather than waiting for a task list. 
• Handle routine repairs involving doors, locks, hinges, cabinets, furniture, fixtures, shelving, and other facility equipment. 
• Assist with minor plumbing issues such as clogged drains, running toilets, faucet repairs, and other basic fixes. 
• Complete painting projects, drywall patching, wall repairs, and general cosmetic improvements throughout the facilities. 
• Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs when appropriate and notify the Facilities Director when a licensed contractor or specialized vendor is needed. 
• Assemble, move, install, and repair furniture, shelving, office equipment, and other items as needed. 
• Conduct routine walkthroughs of facilities to identify maintenance, safety, cleanliness, or appearance concerns. 
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and follow assignments through to completion. 
• Assist the Facilities Director with preventive maintenance and scheduled facility projects. 
• Assist with room setups, furniture moves, deliveries, special events, and other operational needs. 
• Help coordinate and provide access to outside vendors and contractors when requested. 
• Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, storage areas, and workspaces in a safe and organized manner. 
• Keep the Facilities Director informed regarding completed work, outstanding items, problems, delays, and issues requiring additional attention. 
• Document completed work and outstanding issues as requested. 
• Follow all safety procedures and immediately report significant safety or facility concerns. 
• Look for productive work and other facility needs when immediate assignments have been completed. 
• Perform other facilities-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in facilities maintenance, property maintenance, handyman work, construction, or a related field preferred. 
• Working knowledge of basic painting, drywall repair, carpentry, plumbing, hardware, and general building maintenance. 
• Ability to safely use common hand and power tools. 
• Ability to troubleshoot everyday maintenance problems and determine when an issue can be handled internally versus when a specialized professional is needed. 
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision. 
• Strong organizational and time-management skills. 
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. 
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, climbing, and working on one's feet for extended periods. 
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors as needed.

• Treat employees, clients, visitors, vendors, and coworkers professionally and respectfully. 
• Take pride in keeping Alpert's facilities safe, functional, organized, and presentable. 

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical functions necessary for general facilities and maintenance work, including standing and walking for extended periods; bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing; using ladders and basic tools; and lifting and moving supplies, furniture, equipment, and other materials as required for the position.
