Job Description - Facilities Technician II

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking a skilled and dependable Facilities Technician II to join our Facilities Management team at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center. This position performs a wide variety of maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities within a large, complex Class A high-rise facility. We are looking for an individual with strong mechanical aptitude who can work independently, troubleshoot problems, and contribute as part of a multi-skilled facilities team.
 


What You'll Do:

•    Perform general building maintenance involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, and other building systems.
•    Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC and mechanical equipment.
•    Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs, including working with systems and test equipment up to 480 volts, as qualified and authorized.
•    Perform plumbing repairs and installations involving fixtures, piping, valves, pumps, and related equipment.
•    Troubleshoot and repair commercial appliances and building equipment.
•    Perform preventive maintenance and identify equipment problems before they result in failures.
•    Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and specifications.
•    Assist with operation and troubleshooting of building systems including DDC/building automation controls, hydronic systems, boilers, air-conditioning equipment, fire alarm systems, and sprinkler systems.
•    Perform carpentry repairs including doors, locks, closers, hinges, drywall, ceiling systems, wall base, and restroom partitions.
•    Troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems and controls.
•    Respond to facility service requests, determine root causes, and provide appropriate solutions.
•    Operate equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, scissor lifts, table saws, pipe threaders, and pipe benders when properly trained.
•    Communicate professionally with Court employees, contractors, vendors, and other departments.
•    Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to building emergencies when necessary.
•    Follow applicable OSHA, NFPA, Court safety procedures, and established Facilities Management policies.

This is a non-exempt unclassified position, reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator. The salary range for this position, which is commensurate with experience, is $50,000 -$60,000. This position will receive a commuter stipend each paycheck. Physical & Work Requirements
The position requires frequent walking and standing throughout the facility and may require climbing stairs and ladders, bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally participate in team lifts of up to 100 pounds.
Work may occur in mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to noise, electrical equipment, paints, solvents, refrigerants, water-treatment chemicals, and other conditions associated with commercial building maintenance.
The employee may operate forklifts, man lifts, scissor lifts, and other equipment after receiving appropriate training and authorization.
This position may participate in an on-call rotation requiring occasional work outside normal business hours.

What we're looking for:

The successful candidate should be a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable working independently while also being part of a team. The position requires good judgment, strong troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers. Because the Judicial Center contains multiple complex building systems, we are particularly interested in candidates who understand how mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and life-safety systems interact within a large commercial building.

•    High school diploma or GED.
•    3–5 years of building maintenance or skilled-trades experience.
•    Demonstrated ability to independently perform general maintenance and moderately complex repairs.
•    Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building-system problems.
•    Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment.
•    Ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation.
•    Valid Ohio driver's license.
 

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:
•    Commercial HVAC and refrigeration
•    Building automation/DDC controls
•    Hydronic heating and cooling systems
•    Steam or boiler systems
•    Pumps, motors, VFDs, and related mechanical equipment
•    Commercial electrical systems, including three-phase/480-volt equipment
•    Fire alarm and sprinkler systems
•    Commercial plumbing
•    High-rise or large commercial/institutional facility maintenance
•    Energy management and lighting controls
Trade certifications, apprenticeships, professional credentials, EPA Section 608 certification, or other relevant technical training are preferred.
