Job Description - FEA Analysis Engineer






Overview






i3 is looking for a FEA Analysis Engineer to support our growing team in Huntsville, AL.









Responsibilities






  • Performs finite element analysis for review, characterization, and validation of mechanical structures and mechanisms in a variety of domains.
  • Assimilates technical information from numerous sources and develops models with a high degree of precision.
  • Uses calculations, Monte Carlo sensitivity analyses, and engineering judgement to evaluate the applicability of models to real-world effects.
  • Prepares technical reports to document and clearly communicate potential failure modes and propose design solutions.
  • Performs trade studies to evaluate alternative design concepts and clearly communicates reasoning and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.








Qualifications






  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited program in a related field is required. Additional experience may substitute for degree.
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess FEA technical expertise to preprocess, mesh, run, and evaluate results of multi-body and muti-material assemblies in static and dynamic modes. Experience with thermal and/or aerodynamic simulation preferred.
  • Experience operating major commercial FEA and meshing software packages required. Experience with Ansys preferred.
  • Experience working for a government organization preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. Existing Secret or higher clearance preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to work in a machine shop environment around heavy machinery and associated dust, debris, noise, and other environmental hazards.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
