Field and Shop Technician - Chicago

General Position Summary

The Field and Shop Technician is responsible for the inspection, monitoring, maintenance, repair, and preparation of material and liquid tanks and related equipment. This position works both in the field and at the company shop in various locations, supporting the readiness and reliability of Ice Solutions systems and equipment. 

The Field and Shop Technician performs routine tank inspections, installs and repairs valves and related components, checks monitoring systems, troubleshoots equipment, and performs general mechanical repairs and maintenance as needed. The technician will also assist with preparing, repairing, organizing, and maintaining equipment used in field operations.

This is a hands-on position requiring mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The position operates a company vehicles and equipment, but a CDL is not required for this role. Travel will be required as necessary, especially during peak months of business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Operations

• Travel throughout the assigned region to inspect and monitor tanks and related equipment.
• Perform routine inspections of tanks, valves, piping, pumps, hoses, fittings, and related components.
• Identify leaks, damage, wear, and other maintenance or repair needs.
• Install, replace, and repair valves, fittings, hoses, piping, and other components.
• Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on brine systems.
• Check and verify operation of tank monitoring systems.
• Identify and report monitoring-system issues and other equipment concerns.
• Respond to field service and repair needs as assigned.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Shop Operations

• Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on equipment in the company shop.
• Inspect, repair, clean, and prepare brine equipment for field deployment.
• Assist with assembly, disassembly, and repair of tanks, pumps, valves, hoses, fittings, and related equipment.
• Prepare tools, parts, equipment, and supplies for field service activities.
• Perform general shop maintenance and keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials.
• Maintain inventory of commonly used parts, tools, and supplies and communicate replenishment needs.
• Assist other team members with equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.

Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance

• Monitor equipment performance and identify potential problems before they result in equipment failure.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance according to established schedules.
• Troubleshoot basic mechanical and monitoring-system issues.
• Escalate complex repairs or technical issues when additional support is required.
• Follow established maintenance, safety, and operating procedures.

Vehicle & Travel

• Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
• Transport tools, parts, equipment, and supplies between the shop and field locations.
• Perform routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs.
• Travel throughout the assigned region as required necessary, especially during peak months of business.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required based on business needs.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical problems.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work both in a shop environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

• Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, equipment repair, field service, plumbing, agricultural equipment, construction, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Experience working with tanks, pumps, valves, piping, hoses, or similar equipment.
• Experience with electronic monitoring systems.
• Experience in snow and ice management or facility maintenance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, parts, hoses, and equipment.
• Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to work outdoors in cold, heat, snow, rain, and other weather conditions.
• Ability to work around brine, salt, chemicals, mechanical equipment, and industrial environments while following required safety procedures.

Work Environment

This position regularly works in both a shop environment and field locations throughout the assigned region. Field work may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

The employee is expected to follow all company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL is not required.
• Additional mechanical, electrical, plumbing, equipment, or safety certifications are a plus.
