Field Operations Specialist (Bozeman, MT)

Natural Habitat Adventures is actively hiring experienced Field Operations Specialists based in Bozeman, MT, for upcoming opportunities supporting our Ultimate Winter Yellowstone: Wolves & Wildlife Nature Journey and Winter Yellowstone & Grand Teton Photo Expedition itineraries beginning in January 2027. As part of our Field Staff team, Field Operations Specialists work alongside Expedition Leaders to provide the operational, logistical, and guest service support that keeps every expedition running smoothly.

Calm under pressure, highly organized and proactive, our Field Operations Specialists play an essential role in delivering safe, seamless, and exceptional guest experiences. They anticipate needs before they arise and ensure every operational detail—from coordinating transportation, meals and gear to assisting with luggage and caring for guests—is handled with professionalism and care. Through respectful communication and a strong commitment to guest well-being, sustainability and safety, they help travelers focus on connecting with nature, culture and conservation while allowing Expedition Leaders to focus more fully on interpretation and guest engagement.

To support local communities and provide guests with a more authentic local experience, we prioritize hiring Field Staff who live in the regions where we operate. Only applicants currently residing—or planning to reside—in Bozeman, WY, for the duration of the season (early January through early March 2027) will be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Guest Experience & Expedition Support

• Work alongside Expedition Leaders to deliver exceptional guest experiences by providing operational, logistical, and guest service support throughout each expedition.


• Welcome and assist arriving guests with airport transfers, luggage handling, hotel check-in, winter gear outfitting, and orientation to lodges and itinerary logistics.


• Engage with guests throughout each expedition, providing attentive service, answering questions and anticipating needs to ensure they feel welcomed, supported and well cared for.


• Coordinate and support field meals by confirming dietary needs, preparing picnic-style lunches and snacks, setting up welcoming meal service and maintaining meal equipment.


• Enhance the guest experience through thoughtful attention to detail, personalized service and environmentally responsible practices.
  

Logistics & Operations

• Collaborate with Expedition Leaders to coordinate the logistics that keep each expedition running smoothly, including confirming and adjusting lodging, meal and transportation reservations.


• Communicate with hotels, restaurants, transportation providers and other local partners to ensure reservations, guest services and daily operations are prepared before the group arrives.


• Manage guest luggage between airports, lodges, hotels and snow coaches, ensuring it arrives at the right place at the right time.


• Purchase, organize and maintain seasonal gear, field supplies and operational inventory while accurately tracking petty cash and trip-related expenses.


• Maintain organized gear storage, field supplies, guide housing and company vehicles to ensure they are clean, functional and expedition-ready.


• Between trips, prepare vehicles, restock supplies, organize gear and complete operational tasks to ensure everything is ready for the next group.


• Assist with pre-season preparation and end-of-season operational wrap-up.

Problem Solving & Safety

• Anticipate and resolve operational challenges such as weather, vehicle issues, schedule changes and other unexpected situations while maintaining a calm, solutions-oriented approach.


• Support safety procedures, uphold company policies and Leave No Trace principles, and communicate professionally and respectfully with guests, team members and local partners at all times.


• Provide hands-on operational support wherever needed to ensure each expedition runs safely, efficiently and seamlessly.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Education

• Prior customer service experience required.


• Professional experience supporting operations, logistics and/or guest services in the travel, tourism, hospitality, outdoor recreation or related industries preferred.


• High school diploma or equivalent required.
  


• College coursework or degree in hospitality, tourism, recreation, business, environmental studies or a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform hands-on operational tasks in physically and mentally demanding outdoor winter environments.


• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform the physical demands of the role.


• Confident operating company vehicles in challenging winter driving conditions.

Required Credentials & Certifications (to be obtained before the start of the season)

• Basic First Aid certification (or higher level first aid training).


• CPR certification.


• Food Handler certification.


• Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.


• U.S. DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.


• Leave No Trace certification.

SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY

This position supports expeditions throughout the winter operating season (approximately early January through early March 2027).

Field Operations Specialists should expect to be available for the full operating season, working a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and overnight assignments while supporting expeditions. During expeditions, the role often requires multi-night stays in Mammoth and, when operationally necessary, shared accommodations with other Field Team members. Between departures, the schedule includes opportunities to return home, along with occasional days or half-days off depending on the expedition schedule.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is an independent contractor role compensated at a competitive daily rate based on experience, with additional gratuity income from guests. Contractors are eligible for annual rate increases based on performance.

Comprehensive pre-season training is provided before the season begins.

Nat Hab provides branded gear, meals, and any required transportation or lodging (outside of Bozeman) while on assignment, as well as a company vehicle for completing daily tasks.
