REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports directly to: Financial Services Accounting Manager
The Financial Services Cashier within the Department serves at the staff level and is selected by the Accounting Manager and a panel after having met the requisite education, training, and experience criteria set out in this job description.
The individual is not responsible for the supervision of employees.
Applicant is hired under the legal doctrine of employment at will.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collect cash, money order, or credit card payments made in person or through the mail;
Post the payment in allocation order as dictated by Judicial policy;
Provide receipts and/or balance statements to defendants;
Utilize a variety of computer systems to post payments or investigate discrepancies;
Ensure that the cash drawer is in balance with receipts at end of each shift;
Perform general clerical functions as required;
Update financial system of changes as directed by the court;
Contributes to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of good accounting principles;
Highly developed attention to details;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and the general public;
Basic skills in operation of standard office equipment;
Proficient in operating Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Thirty (30) hours of college coursework with emphasis in business, accounting, finance, or public administration is desirable.
Three (3) years of experience in cashiering or accounting field or a combination of education and experience is desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Includes lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand an eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting and handling to perform the essential job functions.
Applicant must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license.
Applicant must pass and maintain a favorable criminal background check.
Applicant must clear a pre-employment physical and urinalysis test.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
May be required to work a flexible schedule and more than 40 hours during the workweek.
