Description

As a Fitter Journeyman (HVAC) here at Honeywell, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC piping and mechanical systems. You will work closely with project teams, HVAC technicians, controls technicians, and other trades to ensure HVAC systems are installed and operating safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.


You will report directly to our Field Service Manager and you’ll work out of our Minneapolis, MN location on an Hybrid work schedule.


In this role, you will impact the reliability and efficiency of commercial HVAC systems by performing quality pipe fitting, equipment connections, mechanical installations, and maintenance on critical heating and cooling systems.



Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, assemble, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC piping and mechanical systems according to blueprints, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Install and service chilled water, hot water, hydronic, steam, and refrigerant piping systems.
  • Install, connect, and service HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, air handling units (AHUs), pumps, cooling towers, rooftop units (RTUs), and heat exchangers.
  • Perform pipe cutting, threading, brazing, soldering, fitting, and joining of HVAC piping systems.
  • Perform pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, and system startup activities on HVAC piping and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydronic systems, valves, pumps, boilers, steam systems, and other HVAC mechanical equipment.
  • Read and interpret HVAC blueprints, piping drawings, mechanical schematics, equipment schedules, and specifications.
  • Work with HVAC controls technicians and electricians to ensure proper equipment connections and system operation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, HVAC technicians, controls technicians, and other trades to coordinate work and ensure timely project completion.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on existing HVAC piping and mechanical systems to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, equipment serviced, and repairs completed.
  • Maintain compliance with Honeywell, OSHA, customer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Travel throughout Northern Minnesota, including Grand Rapids/Iron Mountain and Eveleth, as required.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls and HVAC control systems is a plus.


Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial HVAC, pipe fitting, mechanical construction, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC piping, hydronic heating and cooling systems, boilers, pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience installing and servicing chilled water, hot water, steam, and refrigerant piping systems.
  • Experience with pipe cutting, threading, brazing, soldering, fitting, and joining methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC blueprints, mechanical drawings, piping schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting commercial HVAC equipment and mechanical piping systems.
  • Working knowledge of commercial air conditioning and heating equipment.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Familiarity with HVAC tools, diagnostic equipment, pressure testing equipment, and mechanical hand/power tools.
  • Ability to safely work from lifts, ladders, elevated platforms, and other jobsite equipment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and commercial construction safety requirements.
  • Must be able to pass applicable background checks and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Northern Minnesota as required.

WE VALUE

  • Completion of a Pipe Fitting, HVAC, or Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent technical training.
  • Journeyman-level experience in commercial or industrial HVAC mechanical systems.
  • Experience working with steam boilers, hydronic boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, RTUs, and heat exchangers.
  • Experience performing HVAC equipment startups, commissioning, pressure testing, and system troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls, DDC/BAS systems, and HVAC controls.
  • Union pipe fitting or commercial mechanical construction experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with HVAC technicians, controls technicians, electricians, and other trades.
