Flagman Officer Specialist

Salary Range:$42,185.78- $42,185.78
 

Works under the supervision of a layout painter in the Engineering Division. Receives work direction from a painter in charge of work crew painting pavement markings. Stops traffic at signaled intersections to allow for striping crew to complete job. Directs traffic in and around work area using sign, hand, and flag signals. Operates truck-mounted arrow board indicating which lanes are closed to traffic. Records license number of traffic control violators for police. Drives to haul materials and equipment to various work sites. Assists in shop during inclement weather performing duties such as routine maintenance on equipment operated, cleaning of shop area, and maintaining shop inventory.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and to use arms and hands to direct traffic. Must be able to traverse on various surfaces. Requires ability to operate automobile to drive to and from various worksites throughout the city. Requires ability to operate other related equipment. Requires ability to perform manual work which will involve reaching, handling, crouching, balancing, and lifting equipment, materials, parts or supplies, which can weigh up to 50 lbs.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Majority of work is performed outdoors. Some shop work is required. Will be exposed to noise, traffic, and changing weather conditions. Requires the use and wear of special uniforms and gear.

High school graduate or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment. Must successfully complete job related skills testing designated by Human Resources such as the ability to find various locations on city map. Experience in traffic control preferred.
