Job Description - Fleet Mechanic

Job Description
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet maintenance, repair, and vehicle
compliance for GCT's 45+ shuttle and executive luxury fleet. This role ensures vehicle safety,
reliability, and compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations while managing maintenance staff,
coordinating repairs, and maintaining operational readiness across 24/7/365 operations. The Fleet
Mechanic serves as the primary technical resource for vehicle-related issues and works closely with
operations leadership to minimize downtime and maximize fleet performance.

Reports to: OPERATIONS MANAGER / FLEET MANAGER



FLEET MANAGEMENT & MAINTENANCE
• Oversee all maintenance and repair operations for GCT's complete fleet of shuttles, buses,
executive sedans, SUVs and vans.
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to ensure vehicle reliability and minimize
downtime.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on all vehicle types.
• Coordinate mobile repair services and manage relationships with external vendors and service
providers.
• Manage parts inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to ensure timely repairs and cost
efficiency.



COMPLIANCE & SAFETY
• Ensure all vehicles meet DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance standards.
• Review and verify Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) submitted through Motive system.
• Maintain comprehensive maintenance records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate annual inspections, emissions testing, and DOT compliance requirements.
• Respond to and document vehicle-related incidents or accidents for insurance and safety
reporting.
• Implement safety protocols and best practices for maintenance operations.



TEAM LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONS
• Supervise and coordinate maintenance technicians and mobile mechanics.
• Provide training and mentorship to maintenance staff on repair procedures and safety protocols.
• Work closely with Operations and Shift Managers to prioritize repairs and manage vehicle
availability.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and coordinate roadside assistance when needed.
• Manage maintenance operations across multiple locations including Dorchester shuttle yard and
primary facility.
• Coordinate with mobile fuel services (Juiced Mobile Fuel) and vehicle cleaning services (DND
Mobile Auto Detailing).



ADMINISTRATIVE & REPORTING
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs and service records for all fleet vehicles.
• Prepare and submit maintenance reports to Operations Manager/Fleet Manager on vehicle status,
repair costs, and fleet performance.
• Manage maintenance budget, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Coordinate warranty claims and insurance documentation for vehicle damage or defects.
• Utilize Motive and other fleet management systems to track vehicle health and maintenance
needs.


Requirements
• 5+ years of experience as a diesel or automotive mechanic with supervisory experience.
• Personal maintenance truck and tools preferred
• ASE certifications preferred; CDL Class B license or ability to obtain within 90 days preferred.
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA vehicle compliance and inspection requirements.
• Experience with Motorcoaches, Blue Bird Activity Buses, Starcraft mini coaches, Ford Transits,
Mercedes, Van Terras, Ford Expeditions, and Volvo vehicles strongly preferred.
• Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
• Strong leadership and team management skills with ability to train and mentor technicians.
• Proficiency with fleet management software and computer-based diagnostic tools.
• Ability to prioritize multiple repair projects and manage emergency situations effectively.
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with operations staff and external vendors.
Working Conditions
• Workshop and field environment requiring physical work including lifting, bending, and use of
tools.
• May require extended hours during vehicle emergencies or critical maintenance periods.
• Must be available for on-call emergency repairs to support 24/7/365 operations.
• Work across multiple locations including primary facility and Dorchester shuttle yard.
