POSITION:
The Food Runner plays a critical role in the guest dining experience by ensuring the prompt, efficient, and accurate delivery of food from the kitchen expediting window to guest tables. Working under the direct guidance of the Expediter, this position requires a high level of physical stamina, basic menu knowledge, and a professional, hospitality-driven demeanor. Food Runners must navigate a fast-paced environment with agility while maintaining a calm, welcoming presence in front of resort guests.
This position is part of an exciting new restaurant concept opening within our resort in mid-August 2026. Official start dates are expected to be finalized in early August.
This position requires some nights, weekends and holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver food orders promptly from the expediting window to the correct guest tables and position numbers.
- Announce each dish clearly upon presentation to the guest, confirming accuracy and answering basic questions.
- Ensure all necessary condiments, utensils, and side dishes accompany the primary order before leaving the kitchen.
- Verify that any special dietary, allergy, or modification markers on the plate match the guest's ticket upon delivery.
- Respond immediately to cues and directives from the Expediter to keep the food window clear and moving efficiently.
- Assist service staff by clearing empty plates, glassware, and debris from guest tables when delivering new items.
- Communicate guest feedback, additional requests, or order discrepancies immediately to the assigned server or Expediter.
- Return dirty trays, stands, and unused service ware to the dishwashing station promptly.
- Keep the food runner staging area, tray stands, and trays clean, sanitized, and organized throughout the shift.
- Assist in restocking service stations with polished silverware, plates, linens, and glassware during low-volume periods.
- Adhere strictly to resort grooming, uniform, and professional presentation standards at all times.
- Follow all food safety, handling, and sanitation protocols established by local health authorities and resort management.
Due to changing operational demands and the need to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to undertake various functions that are not specifically related to this position. This individual may be required to carry out additional tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Additionally, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and modification.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, weekdays, and holidays required.
- Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality setting is preferred, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are required.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles and restaurant flow operations.
- Ability to rapidly learn table numbers, seat numbers, resort property layouts, and core menu concepts.
- A valid local food handler certification or the willingness to obtain
- Clear verbal communication skills to interact professionally with guests, servers, and kitchen staff.
- A warm, welcoming, and professional presentation style that reflects the standards of a wellness resort environment.
- Ability to maintain focus, speed, and efficiency during peak service hours and high-volume periods.
- Strong team player mentality with a willingness to assist coworkers across both front and back-of-house teams.
- Excellent physical agility to navigate crowded dining rooms, patios, and kitchen corridors safely and quickly.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Reliability, punctuality, and professional communication skills are critical.
- Ability to work under pressure with a high level of patience and customer service.
- CPR and first aid certification a plus and /or the willingness to be trained.
- Ability to walk or stand and move about the resort (both indoors and outdoors) for eight or more hours per day, sit, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, push and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and procedures, and the capacity to communicate effectively and professionally.
