Essential Functions:

The Foreman will oversee a 4-5 member construction crew, has full knowledge of underground utility installation operations, and is an expert heavy equipment operator in telecom space. This position will also be required to operate the mini excavator to dig on and around live utilities.â¯
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provides mid-level laborer functions including hand digging with a shovel, setting up traffic control, entry level equipment operations, placing fiber, loading materials, etc. on various safety sensitive utility construction sitesâ¯
- Proficient with utility print and map readingâ¯
- Has performed at least 6 months of independent operating of various equipment (directional drill, mini); knows all safety regulations with basic operating skillsâ¯
- Supports the setup and shut down of utility construction projects including traffic control in various conditions including highways, side streets, parking lots, downtown locations, etc.â¯
- Loads and unloads materials and equipment in from vehicles at construction yards and jobsitesâ¯
- Assists in identifying hazards by utilizing the pre-task processâ¯
- Ensure locates are correctâ¯
- Safely and efficiently operate Mini Excavatorsâ¯
- Ensure safe operation of any support equipmentâ¯
- Constantly communicating with crew membersâ¯
- Ensure potholes are dug prior to crossing utilitiesâ¯
- Maintains accuracy in all reporting functionsâ¯
- Assist with JSA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditionsâ¯
- Assist Laborers with hand digging and pot holing when neededâ¯
- Performs other position duties when requestedâ¯
Success Factors:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.â¯â¯
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shiftâ¯
- Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneelingâ¯
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructionsâ¯
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workersâ¯
- Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policyâ¯
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reportsâ¯â¯
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skillsâ¯â¯
Experience and Education:
- Three (3+) plus years’ experience in a utility construction role is requiredâ¯
- Prior crew coordination experience is preferredâ¯
- Experience working with underground utilities required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basisâ¯
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)â¯background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
