Job Description - Genetic Counselor-Clinical and Laboratory Programs


We are seeking a Genetic Counselor to play a key role in supporting the clinical quality and continued growth of the company's genetics programs.


This is a cross-functional position that goes beyond traditional patient counseling. The Genetic Counselor will work closely with the laboratory, clinical, sales, marketing, revenue cycle management (RCM), and leadership teams to ensure that genetic testing programs are clinically appropriate, effectively communicated, and successfully implemented.


The ideal candidate will be comfortable translating complex genetic information for physicians, clinical staff, internal teams, and patients when appropriate.


Key Responsibilities


Clinical & Report Support




  • Assist with interpretation and clinical review of genetic testing reports.




  • Serve as an internal resource regarding genetic variants, clinical significance, testing methodologies, and appropriate follow-up.




  • Communicate with physicians and clinical teams regarding results, testing considerations, and clinical questions.




  • Support recommendations for additional testing, referrals, or genetic counseling based on test results.




  • Assist with complex or unusual genetic cases requiring additional clinical review.




Genetics Program Development




  • Provide clinical expertise across hereditary cancer, pharmacogenomics (PGx), carrier screening, NIPT, and whole exome sequencing programs.




  • Work with laboratory leadership to evaluate and improve genetic testing offerings, reporting, workflows, and clinical resources.




  • Help ensure testing programs reflect current clinical guidelines and accepted standards of care.




  • Assist in evaluating new genetic tests, panels, technologies, and clinical applications.




Provider & Clinical Education




  • Develop and review educational materials for physicians and clinical staff.




  • Participate in provider education regarding appropriate test utilization, patient selection, results interpretation, and follow-up.




  • Translate complex genetics concepts into practical information clinicians can use in patient care.




Cross-Functional Support


The Genetic Counselor will collaborate with multiple internal teams, including:




  • Laboratory: Clinical interpretation, test development, reporting, and workflow support.




  • Sales: Clinical education, provider questions, and support for new genetics programs and accounts.




  • Marketing: Review genetics-related educational and marketing materials for clinical accuracy.




  • RCM: Assist with clinical questions involving medical necessity, test utilization, documentation, and payer requirements.




  • Leadership: Provide clinical insight regarding new genetic testing opportunities, program development, and overall genetics strategy.




Qualifications




  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.




  • Board certified or board eligible through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or equivalent credentialing organization.




  • Strong understanding of clinical genetics and genetic testing.




  • Excellent ability to interpret and communicate complex genetic information.




  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.




  • Ability to collaborate effectively across clinical, laboratory, operational, and commercial teams.




  • Comfortable working in a growing environment where responsibilities may evolve as the genetics portfolio expands.

  • Prenatal genetics




  • Whole exome sequencing




  • Experience with a clinical laboratory, molecular diagnostics company, or genetics testing company




Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.


Compensation




  • Full-Time: Starting around $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and scope of responsibilities.




  • Part-Time: Compensation will be structured based on experience and anticipated hours.
