Our 8-week career training programs provide participants with the skills needed to be successful on any job. Our training focuses on individual development, Personal Empowerment, Career Training, and the 21st Century Skills that today’s employers are looking for. Graduates of this program typically double or triple their annual income. Our career coaches help participants develop a career plan while providing them with the resources and placement connections needed to achieve their goals.

Our Personal Empowerment Training curriculum that provides transformative Emotional Intelligence Training has been designed by The Empowerment Institute at Twin Cities R!SE. Not only do our TCR program participants benefit from this training, The Empowerment Institute partners with businesses, schools, universities, and nonprofits to help them create their own empowered cultures within these organizations.

JOB TITLE: Grants  Manager

JOB PURPOSE

The Grants Manager is a member of TCR’s development team and will play a key role in our fundraising and relationship building efforts to sustain and grow our impact in empowering and employing MN’s diverse workforce. Key duties include creating and implementing a fundraising plan for corporate, foundation and government giving, managing an annual grant plan and calendar, writing grant narratives, and effectively utilizing Salesforce to track and report on funder relationships and fundraising goals. The position would participate with leadership in assessing whether to pursue Federal grants in future years, with no imminent plans to do so.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Strategy, Research, and Proposal Development – 50%

• Develop and manage an annual fundraising strategy for corporate, foundation, and government grants aligned with organizational priorities.
• Research prospective funders and review grant guidelines to assess eligibility, alignment, and feasibility of funding opportunities.
• Write and submit compelling grant applications, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and other funding requests in collaboration with leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Work with program and finance teams to develop grant narratives, program descriptions, budgets, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with development team members to ensure grant strategies align with broader fundraising goals and organizational priorities.
• Coordinate with the Individual Donor Relations Manager on communications planning and stewardship timelines.
• Work with the Events Manager on fundraising events and sponsorship initiatives.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop grant materials, sponsorship collateral, and impact communications.

Government Grants Management and Compliance – 20%

• Oversee government grants management including city, county, state, and workforce development funding sources.
• Maintain grant records and ensure timely submission of required financial and programmatic reports.
• Monitor grant compliance requirements and coordinate with internal stakeholders on documentation, audit preparation, and regulatory adherence.
• Track performance metrics and funding outcomes, including monitoring the DEED workforce dashboard and organizational reporting requirements.
• Coordinate internally to ensure grant-funded programs are implemented effectively and in accordance with grant terms and timelines.

Funder and Sponsor Relationship Management and Stewardship – 20%

• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government funders.
• Cultivate prospective funders through outreach, meetings, phone calls, events, and site visits.
• Serve as a primary contact for grant funders and government partners.
• Steward funders through recognition, reporting, impact storytelling, and ongoing engagement.
• Provide responsive and professional customer service to funders, prospective funders, and volunteers.
• Support sponsorship strategy development, including creating event sponsorship packages and related materials.
• Represent the organization at trainings, networking events, and funder convenings.
• Work with the Director of Development to help foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Data Management, Reporting, and Systems – 10%

• Maintain accurate grant records and documentation for proposals, awards, reporting requirements, and compliance deliverables.
• Utilize Salesforce to track grant activity, manage funder portfolios, analyze performance, and report on fundraising progress.
• Develop and implement processes for entering, accessing, and reporting grant data in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Partner with finance and program teams to develop program budgets, impact reporting, and grant deliverables.

SUPERVISION: N/A. This position does not provide supervision to any staff. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$70,000 to $80,000 annual salary, depending on qualifications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree.
• 1 year of experience in fundraising and development, including full time, part time, internship roles, or volunteer roles.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 2+ years of experience in fundraising and development.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Business, or a related field. 
• Experience in corporate, foundation, and/or government grants management.
• Experience using CRM or fundraising databases such as Salesforce.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in working with organizations to support workforce development, especially with populations overcoming socio-economic hurdles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Strong oral and written communications skills to convey the mission of TCR to funders, board members, and other stakeholders who are important to the organization’s fundraising success.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in the development profession. 
• Knowledge of grant writing standards and research techniques for prospect research.
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to achieve results both individually and with others. 
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team. 
• Excellent time and project management skills with the ability to manage priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner. 
• Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on an interpersonal or group level, including effective listening and relationship building skills. 
• Ability to work with a positive outlook in a changing environment, quickly adjusting key priorities in response to the ever-changing dynamics of the organization. 
• High degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion, and tact. 
• Knowledge of and ability to use computer, ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence (AI), and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work. 
• Ability to effectively resolve a variety of problems and concerns within the scope of the organization’s policies, practices, and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Ability to use a PC/laptop, requiring repetitive motion of fingers, hands, and wrists. 
• Required to occasionally move about in an office environment to access file cabinets, printers, etc., and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move about in the community.
• Ability to lift light materials and equipment in the typical office environment (up to 15 pounds).
• Ability to be on video call for all meetings. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work schedule: Occasional evenings and/or weekends will be required (workweek will be adjusted accordingly).
• Travel requirements: Position will be expected to travel throughout the Twin Cities metro area to attend meetings and other events. 
• Location/structure of work: Position is hybrid; employee will be expected to work in the TCR office weekly.
