Job Description - Grounds Technician



Summary/Objective

 

The position of Spring Grove Grounds Technician is established to perform support and assistance to the Spring Grove Grounds Team.

 

Primary Duties:

Customer Service – Spring Grove Cemetery

Communication both verbal and written

Interface with both employees and customers in-person

Operate grounds equipment

General maintenance of grounds areas

 

Grounds Technician – Spring Grove Cemetery

Operation of backhoe (excavation and backfilling)

Ability to assist the backhoe operator by having a complete understanding and knowledge of operating the soil hauler including adding pea fill around the vault prior to backfilling

Ability to prepare a burial site including; setting of plywood boards, excavation, lining grave with grass and coco matting, and tamping

Operation of pounding during backfilling

Operation of soil hauler, tractor and trailer

Assist with all mowing and trimming of the cemetery grounds

Comfortable working at multiple height levels on a lift

Ability to excavate inurnment and infant burials by hand

Ability to do the entombment and niche inurnment process

Maintenance and SOP’s on all equipment

Understand and be able to read a lot diagram

Ability to engineer a burial space, and provide third check if needed

Assist in leading services to funeral sites

Assist funeral director and family when arriving at the burial location

Ability to operate the vault trailer and install a vault

Ability to complete the installation of markers, monument foundations, and monuments

 

Horticulture – Spring Grove Cemetery

Assist with mulching, pruning, and planting

Sod installation and upkeep throughout the year.

Work Environment

This position operates outdoors in all weather conditions. The work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.

 

Physical Demands

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; bending; kneeling; lifting; and reaching with hands and arms. Required to lift up to 75 pounds.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

 

This is a full-time Non-Exempt position. Business days and hours of work are: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. working every third Saturday Must be able to work weekends as needed.

 

Travel

Local travel maybe required between campuses for support.

 

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

 

1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

2. No experience necessary, however experience in grounds maintenance, greens industry, or construction would be helpful.

3. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

4. Must have ability to work independently and in a team environment, high attention to detail and have good problem-solving skills.

5. Displays a “Customer First” attitude.
