Head Coach for Upper School Cross Country

McLean School (mcleanschool.org), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for the Head Coach for Cross Country position to begin August 2026.

The Head Coach for Cross Country is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and directing the Middle School & Upper School Cross Country Program.

This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics, Coaching, and Mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have
experience as a Head Coach for Cross Country at the College or club-level, effective written and oral communication skills, a connection to the youth and local cross country community, an ability to build relationships and work well with others, a sharp perspective on the role of athletics in the educational experience.

Essential duties include:

• Offer positive leadership by coaching the Varsity Program


• Oversee the entire Cross Country Program including our Middle School and Junior Varsity Program


• Serve as an ambassador for the school and the program by connecting and following up with interested scholar-athletes and families


• Conduct out-of-season programs within league rules such as strength and conditioning, summer leagues, and pre- and post-season workouts


• Connect with Middle and Lower School students and families to promote participation and involvement in the program.
