Job Description - Head of Commercial Operations

The Head of Commercial Operations is responsible for the development, implementation, and daily management of commercial manufacturing operations to meet the future needs of Serán’s commercial business. The chosen candidate will be part of the team that develops Serán’s value proposition, offerings, and pricing strategy, while strengthening client relationships. In addition to supporting the Business Development team with the acquisition of new business and maintaining existing business, this position will also be responsible for leading and managing the commercial operations team inclusive of technical transfers, project proposals, commercial analysis, and commercial development. Ideal candidates will demonstrate direct experience with commercial facility operations, successful leadership roles, and business acumen to advance the mission and values of Serán BioScience.

\nSupervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversees workflow of the commercial operations teams
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff
  • Contributes towards organizational strategy as a member of the Senior Management team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Senior Leadership team to develop strategic planning for Serán's clients and the organization
  • Manages the introduction of new commercial projects
  • Acts as commercial representative for key customer relationships
  • Leads execution of the commercial and business strategy in development and manufacturing
  • Provides input for facility and capital improvements, including the construction of a greenfield commercial facility
  • Supports the Business Development team to contribute towards generating and qualifying leads
  • Identifies and delivers new business opportunities
  • Hosts customer site visits and facilitates onboarding of new customers
  • Maintains strong customer relationships
  • Advocates and allocates budget for commercial operation team
  • Responsible for management of pipeline / portfolio and delivery of products
  • Manges the manufacturing operations technical team and production teams
  • Meets frequently with Quality, Project Management, and Executive Management teams
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates technical understanding of drug substance, drug product, and materials characteristics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • High degree of organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software 
  • Demonstrates strong project management tracking
  • Ability to build strong and motivational relationships with executive management and operations teams
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic business plans and commercialization strategies
Education and Experience
  • BS in Life Science or Engineering discipline required, MS or Ph.D. preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in CDMO/CMO Commercial Operations
  • Preference given to those with direct experience in development and manufacturing of spray drying technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple technologies (Drug Substance, Drug Product, Development, and manufacturing service lines)
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • National and international travel required
