SUMMARY: Maintenance workers provide a direct service to the Head Start program by maintaining the Center in such a way to promote health and safety while reducing the spread of infection.
The maintenance worker follows the cleaning schedule in the center when the children are not present so no interference with their care occurs. Maintains and repairs heaters, equipment, furniture and other Head Start materials and facilities fixtures.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have strong computer skills. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Per Headstart regulations, must be at least nineteen (19) years of age. Must pass a Physical Examination, TB test and criminal records background check. Native Hire Preference. Must be able to safety drive a snow-machine; four-wheeler; or vehicle. Must be able to lift and carry heavy items.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or GED required. Yup’ik/English speaking preferred. Past work experience in carpentry and general maintenance duties. Training in heater maintenance and repair. Present or past experience in a Headstart Center.
CERTIFICATION: Must have an Alaska driver’s license and have a good enough driving record to be covered on AVCP Vehicle Insurance.
