JOB PURPOSE
The Ryan White Health Insurance Specialist assists Ryan White clients with health insurance enrollment, processing Nevada Medication Assistance Program (NMAP) referrals, insurance premium payments, and cost-share assistance for medical, dental, and vision services. This role works closely with clients, providers, and partner agencies to ensure access to healthcare coverage while maintaining compliance with Ryan White program requirements and AHN standards. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Screen and determine client eligibility for Ryan White and related healthcare programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, Nevada Check-Up, and the Premium Assistance Program.
- Assist clients with health insurance enrollment, renewals, and coverage maintenance while providing compassionate and respectful customer service.
- Process NMAP referrals, insurance premium payments, and cost-share assistance payments for eligible medical, dental, and vision services.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records in CAREWare, Salesforce, and other required systems.
- Determine appropriate payer sources and ensure all services and payments comply with program requirements and guidelines.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, healthcare providers, partner agencies, and funding organizations.
- Prepare reports, maintain documentation, and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
- Communicate complex program information clearly and effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and routine meetings with direct supervisors.
- Adapt to changing priorities and perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- High School Diploma required; AA Degree preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in health insurance, sales, and health insurance specialist experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of computer experience including Microsoft operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database input, and report generation.
- Ability to obtain an Exchange Enrollment Facilitator (EEF) License within 90 days (agency-funded).
- Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification (to be obtained within 1 year; agency-funded).
- Demonstrated experience in planning and execution of organizational communication.
- General knowledge of health insurance programs, AHN services, and standard administrative practices.
- Flexibility to accommodate department-determined work schedules, which may change based on operational needs.
- Must adhere to HIPAA regulations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee usually works in a climate-controlled office environment.
- Be able to sit at a computer for 6 – 8 hours per day.
- Be able to stand between 3 – 6 hours per day.
- Be able to withstand hand/wrist deviation and repetition.
- Must be able to lift, carry up to 30 pounds with a fair consistency.

This position is funded through external grant sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the ongoing availability of this funding. If funding is reduced or discontinued, the position may be changed or eliminated.
