Position Summary: The High School Pastor leads and disciples students, equips leaders, partners with parents, and helps students grow in faith, serve others, and share Jesus. Our church of 4,000+ attendees has a thriving high school ministry with 150+ weekly students, 300+ summer campers, strong life group engagement, mission trips, and active student service.
The ideal candidate is a relational leader, gifted communicator, and passionate disciple-maker.
Key Responsibilities:
Cast Vision and Lead the High School Ministry:
Provide spiritual, strategic, and organizational leadership for all aspects of the ministry.
Evaluate ministry effectiveness and continually develop strategies that help students take their next step with Jesus.
Plan and execute engaging weekly programming specifically at Midweek (Wednesday evening)
Build a Culture of Discipleship:
Lead a ministry that prioritizes biblical teaching, authentic relationships, and spiritual formation.
Oversee and strengthen the ministry's life group strategy, ensuring every student has the opportunity to belong and grow.
Create pathways that encourage students toward baptism, serving, generosity, leadership, and personal evangelism.
Recruit, Develop, and Shepherd Adult Leaders:
Recruit, train, coach, and care for a healthy team of volunteer adult leaders.
Cultivate leaders who are spiritually mature, relationally engaged, and equipped to disciple students.
Foster a culture where leaders are known, encouraged, challenged, and empowered to lead effectively.
Lead Exceptional Programs, Events, and Experiences
Provide leadership for weekly gatherings, summer camp, retreats, mission trips, and special events.
Ensure ministry environments are welcoming, engaging, safe, and spiritually impactful.
Oversee planning, budgeting, logistics, and volunteer coordination for all ministry events.
Invest Relationally in Students
Build meaningful relationships with students beyond scheduled church programming whenever possible.
Be intentionally present in students' lives through school events, athletic competitions, performances, lunches, and other community opportunities.
Model a shepherd's heart by knowing the pulse of our students and creating opportunities for authentic discipleship.
Partner with Parents:
Encourage and equip parents as the primary spiritual influencers in their teenagers’ lives.
Communicate consistently about ministry opportunities, resources, and discipleship conversations happening within the ministry.
Build relationships with families through intentional care, accessibility, and support.
Plan Events and Discipleship Opportunities:
Lead the planning and execution of camps, retreats, service projects, outreach events, and special activities throughout the year.
Help students discover opportunities to serve within the church and community.
Create pathways for students to deepen their faith and engage in biblical community.
Collaborate with the Church Staff:
Work closely with the NextGen team and church staff to create a seamless discipleship strategy from childhood through young adulthood.
Participate in staff meetings, church-wide initiatives, and leadership development.
Support the overall mission of the church by serving collaboratively across ministries as needed.
Qualifications:
A growing and authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
A clear calling to student ministry and pastoral leadership.
Strong biblical teaching and communication skills.
Ability to recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
A relational personality with a passion for investing in students and families.
Alignment with the doctrine, mission, and values of the church.
Previous experience in student ministry and ordination is preferred.
