HIM Verification Specialist

Nemours is seeking a HIM Verification Specialist

This position is responsible for picking up, prepping, verifying & digitally categorizing documents into the electronic medical records via a variety of applications/systems to assure that clinical information is accurate and available for patient care in a timely manner.

NOTE:  Associates that live greater than 50 miles from their assigned Nemours Home Office Site will not be required to participate in the mail pick-up task.

Essential Functions 

1. Analyzes and classifies all incoming documents for scanning to the document management system (including email attachments, CD uploads, etc.). 
2. Serves as primary data verification analysts, enters discrete data accurately and timely to support clinical decision making; and analyzes the specialty referrals and creates the consult orders to initiate the scheduling process.
3. Maintains standard of accuracy and productivity and actively proposes innovative ideas for efficiency and enhancements.
4. Demonstrates competency in the following: EMR, Optical Character Recognition application, Document Imaging Software; Microsoft Office Applications, and Rightfax.
5. Responsible for testing of upgrades and new applications. 
6. Processes documentation directly from NemoursLink and messages from Care Everywhere.
7. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the HIM policies and reliable methods governing all verification processes.
8. Utilizes advanced technology to eliminate printing and redundancy of documents; and approaches problems with independent judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills that require logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
9. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination from other departments.

Requirements

Associate degree, RHIA/RHIT preferred

1-3 years experience required
