We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist / Surgical First Assistant to support surgical teams in the operating room. The role involves maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical equipment and supplies, assisting during procedures, and supporting patient positioning and surgical care.
The position may provide opportunities to work with a variety of complex surgical cases, including cardiac and thoracic procedures, LVAD, heart transplant, cardiopulmonary bypass, and ECMO-supported procedures.
Candidates must meet one of the following:
Completion of an LPN program, OR
Completion of a Surgical Technology program, OR
Completion of an RN program, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of previous surgical scrub experience.
Obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
Previous Surgical Technology experience preferred.
Maintain appropriate aseptic technique in sterile and non-sterile roles within the OR.
Assist the circulating RN in maintaining a safe and sterile surgical environment.
Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts according to established guidelines.
Assist with surgical gowning, gloving, positioning, and preparation of equipment and instruments.
Pass sterile instruments to surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
Assist with patient transportation and positioning.
Assist surgeons during procedures with retractors and positioning of operative limbs as directed.
Prepare supplies and equipment according to surgical preference cards.
Assist with sterilization and proper maintenance of surgical supplies and equipment.
Monitor inventory and order, restock, and organize supplies and instruments.
Remove expired supplies and ensure appropriate disposal or reprocessing.
Perform general cleaning and equipment checks as assigned.
Assist with accurate documentation of patient charges.
Participate in on-call coverage with a 30-minute response time.
Provide surgical assistance during complex procedures, including cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Assist with procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO support.
Provide surgical assistance during LVAD procedures and heart transplants.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Ability to push/pull heavily loaded carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
Good visual, hearing, oral, manual dexterity, and technical skills.
Ability to wear lead protection for extended periods.
Fast-paced operating room environment.
Regular exposure to surgical procedures and medical equipment.
May involve extended periods of standing and wearing protective equipment.
Ability to work flexible or on-call schedules as required.
