What You’ll Do


As an Area Sales Director – Hospice, you will lead and develop a high-performing sales team while driving referral growth, market development, and revenue across your assigned territory.


You’ll provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership to Account Managers and Care Transition Navigators, building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and performance. Working closely with operational leaders, referral partners, and community stakeholders, you’ll translate market opportunities into strategies that expand access to exceptional hospice care.


Sales Leadership & Team Development




  • Lead, coach, and develop Account Managers and Care Transition Navigators to achieve individual and team referral and sales goals




  • Recruit, interview, onboard, train, and retain high-performing sales professionals




  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, education, and feedback




  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and consistent execution




  • Develop and monitor performance improvement plans when needed




  • Equip team members with the knowledge, tools, and strategies necessary to successfully grow their markets




Market Strategy & Growth




  • Develop and execute strategic sales and marketing plans for the assigned territory




  • Create individualized growth strategies and sales plans for team members based on market opportunity




  • Drive consistent referral and revenue growth through effective territory management, account development, and market expansion




  • Identify market trends, competitive opportunities, referral patterns, and barriers to growth




  • Translate market intelligence into actionable strategies that strengthen VitalCaring’s presence and performance




  • Monitor sales activity and performance to ensure appropriate focus on target accounts, referral sources, and growth opportunities




  • Communicate regularly with regional sales leadership regarding territory performance, strategy, opportunities, and challenges




Referral Partnerships & Business Development




  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with physicians, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and other healthcare and community partners




  • Strengthen existing referral partnerships while identifying and developing new sources of business




  • Partner with referral sources to increase awareness and understanding of hospice services and appropriate patient eligibility




  • Represent VitalCaring within the healthcare community through relationship development, educational programs, community events, and strategic networking




  • Position VitalCaring as a trusted partner for patients, families, providers, and healthcare organizations




Operational Partnership & Execution




  • Partner closely with branch and operational leadership to align sales strategies with organizational, market, and patient-care goals




  • Maintain visibility into referral trends, market performance, and operational capacity to support sustainable growth




  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of sales and referral activity within company systems and technology platforms




  • Prepare, review, and communicate sales-related reporting and commission information as required




  • Participate in required training, education, and professional development activities




Compliance & Market Education




  • Ensure sales and referral activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including Stark Law and Anti-Kickback requirements




  • Educate sales team members and referral partners regarding hospice services, Medicare guidelines, eligibility requirements, and applicable referral processes




  • Reinforce ethical, compliant, and patient-centered business development practices throughout the sales organization

Requirements




  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; college degree, equivalent relevant experience, or applicable professional licensure required




  • Minimum of one (1) year of healthcare or home-based care sales experience




  • Demonstrated history of achieving or exceeding sales and growth goals




  • Experience with territory management, business development, and referral relationship building




  • Sales leadership, coaching, or team development experience strongly preferred




  • Hospice sales experience strongly preferred




  • Strong communication, presentation, organization, and relationship-building skills




  • Ability to analyze market opportunities and develop effective growth strategies
