Job Description - Hospice Volunteer


Dover Health hospice volunteers play an important role in supporting patients and families receiving hospice care. Volunteers provide non-medical support that enhances comfort, connection, and quality of life.

Volunteer activities may include companionship and conversation, reading, sharing hobbies, providing caregiver respite, assisting with activities, and offering a supportive presence to patients and families. Volunteers may also support the hospice program in administrative or community outreach roles.

All volunteers complete required training and participate in ongoing education to ensure they are prepared and supported in their role. Volunteers are asked to commit to a consistent schedule and uphold Dover Health’s standards of compassionate, patient-centered care.


Requirements

Hospice volunteer requirements at Dover Health include being at least 18 years old, completing an application and a background check, participating in required training and ongoing education, and meeting basic health and safety requirements, including annual TB screening. Volunteers are asked to commit to a consistent schedule and demonstrate a compassionate heart for supporting patients and families.

Dover Health Hospice volunteers are expected to honor each patient’s autonomy, preferences, and dignity while carrying out their volunteer activities with punctuality, courtesy, and professionalism. Volunteers must complete and submit required documentation of their activities and comply with HIPAA and other laws that protect patient privacy.
