Job Description - Hospital - PRN Speech & Language Pathologist
Description The PRN Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides as-needed speech-language pathology evaluation and treatment services to patients in a hospital setting. Delivers patient-centered care as ordered by the provider, including evaluation, therapeutic interventions, diagnostic testing, and patient education related to communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Services are provided in accordance with established clinical protocols, professional standards, and departmental guidelines, while supporting MSRH's mission, vision, and values. The PRN SLP supports patient care needs based on variable scheduling, patient volume, and operational demand. Work is performed under the supervision of departmental leadership. The PRN role requires flexibility to work variable shifts, including on-call coverage and call-back as needed.
Responsibilities
Perform speech-language pathology evaluations for patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in accordance with provider orders and clinical protocols.
Perform swallowing assessments and provide recommendations to support safe oral intake.
Deliver therapeutic interventions using appropriate techniques and modalities within scope of practice.
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical response and patient needs.
Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to support patient outcomes.
Provide patient and caregiver education related to communication strategies, swallowing safety, and home exercise programs.
Document evaluations, treatments, and patient progress accurately in the electronic medical record.
Prioritize patient assignments based on clinical needs and operational workflow.
Apply evidence-based practices in the delivery of care.
Comply with all regulatory, safety, infection control, and quality standards.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of speech-language pathology principles, including assessment and treatment of communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders.
Ability to perform comprehensive evaluations and develop appropriate treatment plans within scope of practice.
Assess swallowing function and recommend appropriate interventions to ensure safe oral intake.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.
Build rapport with patients and provide patient-centered care.
Adapt to variable schedules, changing patient populations, and operational demands typical of PRN assignments.
Provide patient and caregiver education related to treatment plans and home programs.
Ability to document patient care accurately and comply with regulatory, safety, and confidentiality standards.
Demonstrated commitment to supporting the mission, vision, and values of MSRH through professional conduct and quality patient care.
