Housing Case Manager

SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments) is dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence with the resources, advocacy, and support they need to rebuild safe, stable lives. We operate with a survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach — and we're looking for a passionate Housing Case Manager to join our team.

The Housing Case Manager (HCM) plays a critical role in SAVE's Housing First Services program, helping survivors of domestic violence achieve housing stability and long-term independence. You'll provide intensive case management, connect clients to financial assistance and community resources, and advocate on their behalf with landlords, government agencies, and community-based organizations.

This role operates across two housing programs with distinct funding sources and requirements, offering a dynamic and meaningful caseload of 12–18 clients at varying levels of need. This is a full-time hourly role that is eligible for overtime.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Direct Case Management

• Deliver intensive crisis intervention, safety planning, and individualized case management to eligible survivors


• Conduct one-on-one sessions to identify needs, set goals, make referrals, and track progress


• Assist clients in applying for housing waitlists, affordable housing, and benefits (SSI/SSDI, CalWORKS, CalFresh, VOC)


• Conduct housing assessments and search for suitable units through online platforms and community outreach


• Provide advocacy with landlords and housing properties on behalf of clients


• Support clients in enrolling in employment training and educational programs to strengthen economic stability


• Deliver flexible case management in-home, in-office, mobile, or virtually throughout Alameda County

Records & Data Management

• Maintain accurate client files and ensure proper documentation of all services and assistance provided


• Manage intake across multiple databases; maintain a current directory of community resources


• Meet regularly with the Housing Manager for supervision and program oversight

General Responsibilities

• Respond to crisis calls and walk-in survivors


• Provide emergency transportation as needed


• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational retreats


• Support onboarding of new staff and volunteers


• Contribute to program planning, development, and office operations

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in social work, human services, counseling, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field


• At least 1 year of case management or similar experience in a social services setting, preferably with trauma-affected populations (more experience strongly preferred)


• At least 1 year of experience working directly with domestic violence survivors


• Understanding of survivor-centered and trauma-informed service models


• Knowledge of the Bay Area housing market and resources available to lower-income communities


• Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and adapt across environments


• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed


• Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and client tracking databases


• Valid California driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicle access


• Completion of (or willingness to complete) the 40-hour state-mandated DV counselor training


• Must pass a background investigation

Preferred

• Experience with housing subsidy programs, tenants' rights, and housing law protections for DV survivors


• Bilingual and/or bicultural experience strongly preferred
