Job Description - Housing Resource Coordinator, Workforce Development and Refugee Services

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA’s Workforce Development and Refugee Services programs annually provide thousands of low income community members with culturally competent case management, employment, education, vocational training, benefits access, health, financial literacy and English language services, in house and by referral. CAMBA specializes in assisting those with special barriers to employment including low skilled workers, long-term unemployed, immigrants and refugees, limited English speakers, formerly homeless, seniors, formerly incarcerated, trauma survivors and victims of human trafficking. These programs are performance-based, and success is measured by meeting enrollment, employment placement, training, retention and case management goals. 

Position: Housing Resource Coordinator
Reports To: Program Manager
Location: 2244 Church Ave, 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11226

What The Housing Resource Coordinator Does:

  • Develop resources, educational materials, partnerships, and deliver presentations both in person and online related to finding an apartment, avoiding scams, tenant rights and responsibilities, rental assistance programs, etc.
  • Assess client eligibility for housing related financial support and make appropriate referrals for move-in/ arrears assistance, rental assistance, furniture assistance, interest-free loans, utility-assistance, etc. that support housing stability.
  • Meet individually with clients to understand housing needs, refer client to appropriate resources, and help complete rental applications.
  • Review terms of leases with clients and provide guidance on tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with case management team to case conference, to schedule client appointments and/or gather information/ documentation as needed, communicating and properly recording any relevant new client information/needs discovered back to the case management team.
  • Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/semester/annual reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders.
  • Prepare marketing materials and conduct marketing or outreach activities to potential referral sources.
  • Pre-screen clients for eligibility for CAMBA programs and recommend the appropriate CAMBA program.
  • Complete client home visits.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
  • Maintain client and program records in compliance with funder’s standards and implement CAMBA internal Quality Assurance protocol.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) and two (2) years of experience in housing case management or real estate property management.
Other Requirements:
  • Relevant education and years of experience described above.
  • Knowledge of and a background presenting on tenant’s rights topics.
  • Knowledge of NYC Housing and public assistance systems and ability to establish partnerships with community organizations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals to assess their needs and connect to programs.
  • Strong documentation skills, including an ability to accurately record client information and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Client focused, culturally competent, empathetic and flexible.
  • Able to multi-task and handle a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with refugees, asylees, and immigrants.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required

Compensation: $60,000-$65,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.


Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
