Job Description - HR Generalist

Position Summary:  The Human Resources Generalist provides front line supervisory  responsibilities in the Human Resource department.  Must be willing to be flexible with schedules to support employee needs.. Assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties with hands on support for employee relations. This position will have responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas; payroll, employee relations, safety, recruitment initiatives, employee development, retention and turnover, productivity and quality standards. Reviews statistical HR data to recommend and plan various strategies to assist with HR objectives. Contributes to the accomplishment of HR practices and objectives that will provide a high performance customer centered and positive work culture. 


Position Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Assist with all aspects of employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives

  • Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine policies and causes of personnel problems involving turnover and retention; absenteeism rates and goals, quality and productivity standards, cost to hire. (This is not an all inclusive list of the statistical reports needed in HR to identify personnel issues to determine effective programs.) 

  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions and help resolve work related problems

  • Review training practices and assist with development of standards to provide improved/consistent training for each department in the DC

  • Participate in and conduct employee investigations with the HR Manager making recommendations for eliminating or reducing exposure potentials. Reads situations quickly, actively listens and settles disagreements and disputes equitably. 

  • Conduct interviews for open positions, communicating results to HR Manager, Supervisors, and Managers for final hiring decision.

  • Assist HR Manager with workforce planning, succession planning, and career development planning. 

  • Develop and maintain talent management processes which includes services with temporary employment vendors.

  • Collaborate with the human resources manager to develop effective recruitment strategies.

  • Experience with hourly recruiting, employee relations and engagement, employee training benefits administration, payroll, policy communication and administration, HR compliance. 

  • Leadership development, change management, and organizational effectiveness. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of labor and employment law both state and federal. 

  • Represent organization at local city events; Chamber, SHRM, community celebrations, as requested

  • Administer new employee onboarding and orientation.

  • Monitor employee morale and company culture.

  • Responsible for leave administration which includes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), modified duty (non-industrial) leaves requests as well as other short-term and long-term disability leave programs. This includes case management and qualifying determinations with approval of the HR Manager.

  • Communicate, implement and interpret HR policies and practices to ensure fair and consistent administration. 

  • Provide support to the Human Resources Manager and cover as backup in his/her absence.


Required Position Qualifications:


Degree with five plus years experience in Human Resources in a manufacturing/distribution environment preferred.  SHRM certification is a plus.


Interpreting and applying HR policies, procedures, programs and processes. 


Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace required. 


Exceptionally strong interpersonal and written/verbal communications skills. 


Strong focus on customer service required. 


Ability to work with very diverse groups of employees at all levels of authority. 


Must have a strong professional commitment to the successful development and maintenance of Human Resources. 


Strong organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to balance several priorities from multiple sources required. 


Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with rapidly changing priorities and demands necessary. 


Must have a strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal direction/supervision Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining accuracy and strong attention to detail. 


Excellent follow through on commitments, using sound judgement with the ability to recognize and handle sensitive/confidential information.


 Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing to comply with   all safety policies and practices, including workplace injury protocols.


 Must be willing to adjust schedule as needed for HR visibility. 


 Excellent attendance and predictability is a must.
