About Our Client
We are currently searching on behalf of our client, a well-established general contractor based in Honolulu. The company operates two construction firms under one parent group and delivers residential, commercial, and retail projects across the islands.
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced HR Manager to oversee human resources for two construction companies operating under one parent group. This position reports directly to ownership and serves as the primary HR resource for office and field employees.The HR Manager is responsible for onboarding, recruiting, benefits, employee relations, and HR policy. The top priority for this role is building and running a structured onboarding program that includes orientation, training, and follow-up. Payroll is handled separately by the office manager and accounting team.
What You'll Do
Onboarding program: Design and lead a structured, engaging onboarding program that goes well beyond paperwork. Build orientation, training, and follow-up touchpoints that set new hires up to succeed.
Talent acquisition: Own the hiring process with managers and external recruiters. Represent the company well to every candidate and help land strong hires quickly.
Benefits strategy: Oversee employee benefits and lead improvements. Research, recommend, and roll out new programs that help attract and keep top people.
Employee relations: Serve as the trusted point of contact for employees at every level. Resolve concerns early and work with legal counsel on serious matters.
Leadership partnership: Advise ownership on HR matters, policies, and people decisions across both companies.
Culture and engagement: Lead recognition, events, and internal communication that keep office and field teams connected.
HR operations: Coordinate with the office manager and accounting team on HR administration. Payroll is handled in-house by others, so your focus stays on people.
Policies and compliance: Build and maintain employee policies, records, and procedures that fit a growing construction business in Hawaii.
What You Bring
HR leadership experience: Proven experience running onboarding, benefits, recruiting, and employee relations, ideally as the lead HR person in a small to midsize company.
Construction knowledge: Understanding of how construction companies operate, including field and office workforces, project-based staffing, payroll, and benefits. Strongly preferred.
People first mindset: You genuinely care about people and it shows in how you work.
Positive energy: You are outgoing, charismatic, and leave a strong impression on employees, candidates, and outside partners.
Creativity: You bring new ideas and have a track record of building or improving HR programs.
Flexibility: You adapt easily and are comfortable wearing different hats in a lean team.
Hawaii knowledge: Familiarity with Hawaii employment practices and the local workforce is a plus.
Education: A degree is not required. Experience, attitude, and people skills matter more.
Cultural fit: You value teamwork, respect, and learning from the people around you.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $100,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, fully on-site in Honolulu.
Health: Medical, dental, and vision coverage, covered 100% for employee and dependents.
Other benefits include PTOs, retirement plan, etc.
