CED is well situated in Downers Grove, Illinois - we are located a commuter train ride west of Chicago and a short drive from farmland.

CED's current salary range for this role is $74,500 -$100,000. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program. CED’s benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts. CED follows a 9/80 work schedule allowing employees to enjoy alternating Fridays off.

JOB SUMMARY:

CED’s HS&E Professional supports the effective and compliant operation of CED’s specialized manufacturing processes The role coordinates and maintains CED’s environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure clear procedures, well-designed systems, and a consistently safe work environment for employees, visitors, contractors and other stakeholders.  The HS&E Professional helps ensure regulatory compliance, encourages a strong and proactive safety culture, and supports continuous improvement in day-to-day HS&E practices across the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve health, safety, and industrial/occupational hygiene programs to ensure world-class safe work practices that protect personnel, assets, and operations
• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments across energetic, chemical, physical, ergonomic, and operational hazards, and implement controls to reduce or eliminate risk as directed
• Provide technical guidance and support for all elements of the Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including hazard analyses, management of operational changes, pre-startup safety reviews, and related compliance requirements; prepare, revise, and update health and safety policies and procedures based on changes in operations, processes, and regulations
• Monitor workplace operations, physical environments and behaviors related to established written programs such as LOTO, Hot Work, GHS, explosives / energetics, confined space, etc.; escalates non-routine concerns to safety leadership
• Interpret, implement, and verify compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and all other relevant regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local levels to ensure effective organizational adherence
• Develop and manage workplace inspection, audit, and assurance programs to monitor safety performance, compliance, and behavior expectations
• Assess training needs, build competency standards, and deliver health and safety training aligned with job and regulatory requirements; work with HR and Training Coordinator to ensure compliant and accurate training records
• Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop effective corrective and preventive action
• Communicate, coach, and provide technical guidance to all levels of the organization on safety expectations, regulatory requirements, and best practices; escalate recommended corrective actions to safety leadership
• Prepare and support health and safety reports, metrics, and data submissions required by the company, regulatory agencies, government entities, or customers

• Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, Code of Conduct and US Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
• Special projects and additional duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

N/A

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, life science, or safety field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Certified Safety Professional certification or ability to gain certification within 18 months of placement

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 3 years of progressive HS&E or industrial hygiene experience
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; experience with energetic or explosive materials is strongly preferred

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Lawful US Person (ITAR restrictions)
• Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
• Collaborative team member who is solution oriented and accepts ownership for new and changing requirements
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret regulations, rules, and laws and apply them within a developmental engineering and manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated experience in conducting thorough workplace investigations related to safety incidents
• Ability to influence others and overcome resistance during periods of change and adjustment
• Ability to represent the Company positively and professionally through behavior, attitude and communication
• Ability to conduct meaningful HSE training and toolbox talks to ensure audience comprehension and understanding; periodically audit the workplace to ensure compliance with training element and conduct retraining as needed
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both internal and external to the organization

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance. Involves sitting most of the time but will require walking or standing at varied intervals throughout the day.  Requires mobility such as climbing, balancing and kneeling for brief periods. Routine and extensive use of a computer. Able to visually discern colors. Intermittent exposure to mechanical systems, particles, chemicals, electrical risks, or energetic materials.
